AUORA, CO—MAY 28 26, 2012—A pair of Wave Carver three-year-olds posted the top two qualifying times Saturday afternoon from three trials contested at Arapahoe Park for the Adequan Arapahoe Derby Challenge.
The 10 fastest qualifiers will return on June 9th to vie for a portion of the $27,500 purse and an invite to the $150,000 Adequan Derby Challenge Championship (G1) at Prairie Meadows October 27.
Junior Quarter Horses, Inc.'s Ultimate Wave defeated Wave Good Bye Baby by a neck in the first of three trials. Ridden by jockey Russell Vicchrilli, the Wave Carver colt completed the 400 yards in :201.146 seconds to garner the top time.
Chris Gandarilla saddled the 3-year-old out of the Corona Cartel mare Eye For Corona. Keilani Farms bred him in Texas.
Alejandro Luna was aboard Wave Good Bye Baby to get the second the fastest time of :20.274. Also by Wave Carver, the filly is a homebred for Hugo Barron Sierra. Jose Manuel Barron conditions the daughter of Baby La Jolla, by Streakin La Jolla.
