VILLE PATTE, LA—NOVEMBER 22, 2018—Sir Runaway Dash, a G1-placed son of leading sire First Down Dash who enjoyed his best success as a leading sire in Louisiana, died October 20 from colic according to Stephen Tate, Farm Manager of Tate Farms where the 14-year-old stallion stood his entire career.

"Unfortunately we lost him due to colic," Tate said on Wednesday. "He was at University of Missouri getting radiation treatment. After all treatments were done three weeks later he colic'ed and they did surgery."

According to Tate the farm has plenty of frozen semen to take care of breeding for the next few years. His fee will remain $3,000 with no consideration.

"He is back home where he belongs," Tate said, of the stallion who is buried at the Ville Platte farm.

Bred by Lucas Racing, Inc., the brother to World Champion Wave Carver and two-time champion Ocean Runaway, won or placed in 12 of 19 career starts and earned $120,706. He was second in the Grade 1 Golden State Derby, and second and third in the Z Wayne Griffin Directors Stakes-Div. 1 at Los Alamitos.

Sir Runaway Dash was also a finalist in the Governor's Cup Futurity(G1), Los Alamitos Invitational Championship(G1), Governor's Cup Derby(G2) and First Down Dash Handicap(G3)-twice.

Campaigned by Runaway Ranch, the royally-bred G1-placed winner was trained by 14-time AQHA Racing champion trainer Paul Jones. He was the property of a partnership at the time of this death.

Sir Runaway Dash began his second career in blue-collar fashion when he entered stud in 2009 at Tate Farms in Ville Platte, Louisiana.

His first crop hit the track in 2012 and from a limited number of starters he ended the year as the #7 Leading First-Crop Sire of Money Earners getting six winners from nine to race, earnings of $297,352 and siring the stakes winner Perrys Runaway, who won the Louisiana Champions Day Juvenile(RG2).

From seven crops to race, Sir Runaway Dash has sired 128 winners, 18 stakes horses, two winners of the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity(RG1), earners of more than $5.5 million and average earnings per starter in excess of $24,200.
