Q-RACING JOURNAL—OCTOBER 14, 2014—There was lots of good racing this weekend. On Saturday, Corona Southern Form pulled off a mild upset at 8-1 odds when he prevailed by a length in the $60,000 New Mexico Breeders’ Championship (RG3) at The Downs at Albuquerque. Bred by Richard and Patricia Shearer of Portales, New Mexico, and owned by Alexis Perez of Albuquerque, Corona Southern Form is trained by Martin Perez and was ridden by Manuel Gutierrez. Now an earner of $81,950, Corona Southern Form has a record of 15-4-1-1.

The winner of last year’s Hard Twist Stakes (R) at Albuquerque, Corona Southern Form is one of nine stakes winners, 59 other winners and the earners of more than $3.36 million from 137 starters by the stakes-placed Corona Cartel stallion Southern Corona ($37,724), who ran in champion Prankster CF’s Marathon National Stakes (G1) at Los Alamitos. Southern Corona is one of 15 winners and the earners of more than $785,000 from 20 starters out of the stakes-placed Reb’s Policy (TB) mare Southern Policy ($37,875). Southern Corona is a full brother to stakes-winners Southern Cartel ($360,361) and CC Policy ($79,958), and a half-brother to stakes winner Southern Dashing Val ($53,377, by champion Dashing Val).

Corona Southern Form is the first stakes winner, one of five winners and the earners of more than $215,000 from six starters out of the graded stakes-winning Rare Form mare Pass The Form ($124,348).

Pass The Form’s dam is the Tiny’s Gay mare Heart To Pass. She herself won or placed in half of her 16 career starts. She has produced three winners from eight starters.

In addition to Pass The Form, Heart To Pass also produced stakes-placed runner Can You Pass (by Lil Easy Cash, $30,963).

On Saturday night at Lone Star Park, the favorites were defeated in both the $385,110 Dash For Cash Futurity (G1) and $174,400 Dash For Cash Derby (G3), as the fourth choices in the wagering got up to win by half of a length in the two stakes.

In the Dash For Cash Futurity, Rattle N Battle, an Oklahoma-bred colt by 2010 world champion Apollitical Jess ($1,399,831), took an early lead and held on to win. Also the sire of September 13 John Deere Prairie Meadows Juvenile Challenge winner AJs High, freshman sire Apollitical Jess is represented by 24 winners and the earners of more than $917,000 from 63 starters.

Rattle N Battle is the first stakes winner out of the winning Corona Cartel mare Tinys Corona Queen ($12,246), whose dam is the Grade 1-winning champion First Down Dash mare Tiny First Effort ($445,393). In 1999, Tiny First Effort sold for a then-record $550,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale, and has produced16 winners and the earners of more than $308,000 from 24 starters.

In the Dash For Cash Derby, Dashin For A Prize closed with a rush to reach the wire first. A gelding by Heza Fash Dash, Dashin For A Prize could have been claimed for $10,000 in July at Retama Park. Dashin For A Prize is out of Fast Prize Angie, a maiden mare by Oak Tree Special. Fast Prize Angie’s dam is Fast First Prize, a Heza Fast Man mare whose dam is 2006 broodmare of the year First Prize Dash, a $77,465-earning full sister to First Down Dash.

On Sunday at the Rocky Mountain Turf Club in Lethbridge, Alberta, Juno Dat Timber became the third stakes winner to represent his sire when he scored in the $58,798 Alberta Bred Futurity (RG3). Juno Dat Timber is a gray son of First Timber out of the unraced Snowbound (TB) mare Dashing Snowbound.

First Timber, a $46,029 earner who ran in champion Noconi’s All American Derby (G1), is out of First Down Dash’s full sister First Prize Dash and is a half-brother to six stakes winners: the Mr Jess Perry siblings First Prize Leesa ($488,270), and First Carolina ($415,047) and First Prize Robin ($295,147), the first twins to win Grade 1 futurities; the Heza Fast Man siblings Fast First Prize ($244,929) and Heza Fast Dash ($136,123); and the Pyc Paint Your Wagon stallion First Prize Doc ($73,700).

Juno Dat Timber is the first winner from three starters out of Dashing Snowbound, a daughter off the winning Juno Dat Cash mare Whata Lota Dash ($10,364).
