First Timber Gets First Stakes Winner

Q-RACING JOURNAL—AUGUST 11, 2014—The 9-year-old stallion First Timber got his first stakes winner on Saturday when Droppin Timber took a daylight victory in the $50,000 Special Hank Handicap. Droppin Timber is a 4-year-old gelding bred by Danny Caldwell of Poteau, Oklahoma, and owned by Frank Greenhaw of Muskogee, Oklahoma. The horse in his previous start was third in the $56,390 Remington Distance Handicap (G3). The gelding is out of the Strawfly Special mare Droppindead Gorgeous.

First Timber is a son of world champion and world champion-sireOak Tree Special out of the blue hen mare First Prize Dash. Bred by Weetona Stanley, the stallion is owned by Wes Oulton and stands at Rolling O Ranches in Alberta.

In an abbreviated racing career, First Timber qualified to the 2008 All American Derby (G1) and earned $46,029. From three crops to race, he has sired 17 winners from 33 starters, with earners totaling more than $430,000. He is also the sire of Miss Chrome First ($47,705), Susies Timber ($36,418) and Big Sluggo ($33,782).

First Prize Dash, a full sister to First Down Dash, is the dam of 27 winners from 34 starters. She has progeny earnings of more than $2.3 million.

Her stakes winners include First Prize Doc (by Pyc Paint Your Wagon, $73,700), Grade 2-winner and leading sire Heza Fast Dash (by Heza Fast Man, $136,123), and Grade 1 winners Fast First Prize (by Heza Fast Man, $244,929), First Carolina ($415,047), First Prize Robin (by Mr Jess Perry, $295,147) and First Prize Leesa (by Mr Jess Perry, $488,270). She is also the dam of Grade 1-placed First Prize Perry (by Mr Jess Perry, $243,946).
