Furrtreeous Gets First Stakes Winner

Q-RACING JOURNAL—JULY 31, 2014—Sire Furrtreeous got his first stakes winner on Saturday when Cashing Teller won the $171,650 Speedhorse Futurity (G2).

Cashing Teller is a brown gelding who races for Dr. Curtis Smith and Sheila Reed of Wapanucka, Oklahoma. The gelding has won three of four starts with earnings of $85,969. He was bred by Smith out of the Agouti mare Teller Shes Lucky. This is the first foal out of the Grade 1-placed earner of $165,514.

Furrtreeous is a 9-year-old son of the late world champion and world champion-sire Oak Tree Special. Bred in partnership by Vessels Stallion Farm and Richard Joneson, he is now owned in full by Joneson and stands at Joneson Ranch at Shawnee, Oklahoma. Furrtreeous is out of the stakes winning Rare Form mare Beeline Feline, making him a half brother to stakes winner Sophastacat (by First Down Dash, $83,304).

The brown stallion won six of 14 starts with three seconds and two thirds, while earning $424,651. He won the 2007 Speedhorse Gold & Silver Cup Futurity (RG1) and Southwest Juvenile Championship (now a Grade 1). He was also second in the Remington Park Derby (G1) and third in the Heritage Place Futurity (G1).

Furrtreeous has sired 19 winners from 59 starters with earners of more than $400,000.

He was also the sire of the runner-up in the Speedhorse Futurity, as his Play Harder was second by a neck.
