First Corona Home Gets First Stakes Winner

AUSTIN, IN—JULY 29, 2014—First crop sire First Corona Home sired his first stakes winner Saturday when Cant Catcha Corona won the richest Quarter Horse race ever held in Indiana, the $199,200 Gordon Mobley Futurity.

Ridden by jockey Harold Collins, Cant Catcha Corona completed the 300 yard course in :15.610 seconds to earn the winner's purse of $109,560. Randy Smith owns-and-trains the 2-year-old gelding out of Special Birthday, by Special Project. Diana Moster is the breeder.

Owned-and-bred by Bella Vista Farms, First Corona Home has sired four winners(80%) in his first crop to race from five starters and has the one stakes winner. His get have average earnings per starter of $39,260 including the aforementioned Cant Catcha Corona SI 96 (3 wins in 3 starts, $122,870, Gordon Mobley Futurity), Put Ten Across SI 95 (2 wins, $19,526, finalist Gordon Mobley Futurity), Bv Fast N Furious SI 92 (winner, $10,825), etc.

The young stallion is currently the #3 Leading First Crop Sire of Money Earners this season.

First Corona Home won or placed in seven of 13 career starts, earning $18,402. The son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash is out of Corona Cowgirl, by Chicks Beduino, a sister to former Broodmare-of-the-Year Corona Chick. Corona Chick is the dam of such leading sires as Valiant Hero, Corona Cartel, Corona Czech and Captain Courage.
