Adolph Tres Knockout Is Top Qualifier For Oklahoma Futurity

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 5, 2011—A total of 14 trials took place Saturday night at Remington Park to determine qualifiers for the $326,000 Oklahoma Futurity.

Adolph Tres Knockout put up a solid 300-yard time in the third trial of the evening and the standard lasted over the next 11 races to be the best heading to the finals.

Owned by Lawrence Puig of Laredo, Texas and trained by Kenneth Griggs, Adolph Tres Knockout was ridden by Paul Nieto. The 2-year-old filly covered 300 yards in :15.328 seconds over a fast track to earn the best time of the night.

A Texas-bred daughter of Tres Seis from the Holland Ease mare Oh Whatta Knockout, Adolph Tres Knockout won her career debut. She was bred in Texas by James & Marilyn Helzer. She was a $2,700 Eclipse Summer Sale Yearling.

Posting the second fastest time from the same trial was Bielau Oaks homebred Mr Taka B. The Feature Mr Jess gelding was clocked in :15.405 under jockey Larry D Payne. Luis Villafranco saddled the colt that was repurchased for $8,000 at the September Heritage Place Yearling Sale. Earlier in the day Bielau Oaks also bred two finalists to the grade 3 Harrah's Entertainment Futurity at Louisiana Downs.

First crop sire Ivory James got two finalists, including the third fastest Kelli Kae. The filly races from Mary and Shalia Powers and is trained by Kasey Willis. Also ridden Payne, her final time was :15.479.

Javier Noel Contreras owns and trains the other Ivory James qualifier Ivory Castle. Ridden by Adalberto Candanosa, the brown colt won the 10th race in a time of :15.490. He was a $10,000 Heritage Place September Sale yearling.

Spit Curl Duchess, a Spit Curl Jess filly who impressed horsemen during the first day of schooling races at Remington two weeks ago, won the 11th trial for owner Elbert Brown. Saddled by Rodney Reed and ridden by G.R. Carter, Jr., she posted the fourth best time of :15.486.

Snowbunny, a Snowbound-TB filly owned by Bowen Arrow Farms, won the fourth trial. Tana Pace trains with Agustin Silva riding to a time of :15.488. Snowbunny was purchased for $6,500 at the Heritage Place September Yearling Sale.

Volcom, also a first crop sire, got his first winner and graded qualifier when Zack Of Hearts, under jockey Jesus Salazar, won the 13th trials and clocked a :15.523. Guillermo Valdivia trains the homebred for Paul Treadwell.

Jim Ward's Mighty Wild Dashin was also a trial winner and qualifier. The Mighty Invictus filly trained by Eddie Lee Willis stopped the timer in :15.524 in the fifth heat. Matthew Casebolt had the riding call.

The final trial winner to qualify was Debra Gotovac's Back In The Pack, who surprised in the 14th race. The Corona For Me filly rewarded backers with $43.40 on a $2 win ticket. Bradley Bolen trains with Cody Wainscott up. Back In The Pack was a $9,000 Ruidoso Summer Sale Yearling.

Sunday afternoon racing returns as Remington Park concludes the 2011 Opening Weekend for the American Quarter Horse & Mixed-breed Season. The first of 12 races takes place at 1:30 p.m., featuring the $50,000 Eastex Handicap and trials for the $135,000 Oklahoma Quarter Horse Derby.
