GRANDE PRAIRIE, TEXAS–NOVEMBER 19, 2022–After a nearly perfect season in 2021, Jet Black Grace’s first out of 2022 proved victorious when Juan Pulido guided him to a win in the $58,500 B.F. Phillips, Jr. Stakes at Lone Star Park Saturday night.

Shooting from the eight hole, Pulido and Jet Black Grace started in seventh position. The duo pushed their way to the front for a 1/2-length victory over Shott Gun. The post-time favorites clocked a 96 speed index in :19.667 seconds and the winning bid paid $3.80 on a $2.00 wager.

From seven lifetime starts, Jet Black Grace and won six of them, including the 2021 Heritage Place Futurity-G1. The $36,270 winner’s share of tonight’s 400-yard stakes race upped the lifetime earnings of the three-year-old gelding conditioned by Santos Carrizales, Jr. to $674,127.

Jet Black Grace is out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Thrill And Grace, who is a multiple stakes producer and grandam of AQHA champion Trump My Record. Breeder Fulton Quien Sabe Ranches, LP sold the son of Jet Black Patriot to his current owner Zitro Racing Corp for $55,000 in the 2020 TQHA Yearling Sale. 

Runner-up Shott Gun, ridden by AQHA champion jockey Rodrigo Vallejo, bobbled a bit at the start, but caught up to cross the wire in second a head over third place finisher His Time To Deal and jockey Francisco Calderon.

Conditioned by Heath Taylor, three-time stakes winner Shott Gun has eight lifetime wins and $580,619 in the bank. Bred and owned by Bobby D Cox of Texas, the four-year-old son of Valiant Hero is out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Eye Popping, who is also the dam of 2021 All American Derby-G1 winner Instygator.

Trained by Jose Guadalupe, His Time To Deal has five career stakes victories (three in 2022) with $279,187 in lifetime earnings. Bred and owned by Pete A. Scarmardo of Texas, the four-year-old son of Dealagame is out of Lady Lilia, who is a multiple stakes producing daughter of First Down Dash and a half-sister to leading sire Desirio. 

Completing the order of finish is Won Famous Dash, Blazin The Moon, Ima Catboy, Dealarunner and El Tartanero Jess. Jb Shiner Bok was scratched by his trainer.
