Ss Classyjess Scores A Victory In $56,000 Yellow Rose Of Texas Stakes Third Year In A Row

GRANDE PRAIRIE, TEXAS–NOVEMBER 19, 2022–It’s no wonder Ss Classyjess was deemed favorite to win in Saturday night’s $56,000 Yellow Rose Of Texas Stakes at Lone Star Park. Not only was the seven-year-old mare one of just two finalists to have won a stakes race, but she has won this particular race the last three years running.

With Luis Vivanco in the irons, Ss Classyjess took the lead in the 400-yard stakes for fillies and mares at first call and powered her way to the finish line crossing the wire 2 1/2-lengths ahead of Best Moonflash. The daughter of Rock Solid Jess clocked a 96 speed index in :19.651 seconds taking home the $36,960 winner’s share of the purse which upped her current year’s earnings to $107,828.

Ss Classyjess has lit the board 43 of 50 starts with 25 wins and $545,684 in lifetime earnings. The Texas-bred mare has 12 stakes victories including the Gillespie County Fair Sprint Classic Stakes and Miss Retama Stakes in 2023.

Jose Carrizales saddled Ss Classyjess for her owner Edgar Rosales. Bred by Ronnie Stewart or Double S Farm, the gray mare is out of High Class Broad by Royal Shake Em.

Best Moonflash, ridden by Francisco Calderon, was best of the rest and placed second ahead of Jess A Dashin Angela and her pilot Ricardo Garza-Cruz. This was the third consecutive stakes competition for the daughter of First Moonflash to have scored the runner-up title, including the Lone Star Distaff Challenge and Miss Retama Stakes.

Trained by Jose Guadalupe, Best Moonflash has lit the board 14 out of 19 starts with $80,117 in the bank. The four-year-old filly’s owner Garlyn Shelton paid $39,000 to breeder Simmons Racing of Texas in the 2019 TQHA Yearling Sale.

Third place finisher Jess A Dashin Angela is the only other horse on the field to score a victory in previous stakes competition, including the TQHA 250 Stakes earlier this season. With four wins, six seconds and three thirds from 18 starts, the daughter of Dash Master Jess has $210,055 in lifetime earnings.

Rolando Almanza conditions Jess A Dashin Angela for owner/breeder Cesar Rosales of Texas. The four-year-old filly is out of the Jet Black Patriot mare Mi Angela, who is a half-sister to leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

The remaining order of finish is Zsuzannah, Foxy Hocks and Lethal White.
