Well-Traveled Jes An Angel Nails Rich Black Gold Oaks Championship at Will Rogers Downs On Tuesday

CLAREMORE, OK–NOVEMBER 15, 2022–Jes An Angel returned to winning form on Tuesday at Will Rogers Downs when defeated co-fastest qualifier Candy Special Power by three-quarters in the $381,695 Black Gold Oaks Championship, the richest 2-year-old filly race in the nation.

A solid competitor all season long, racing in four states on five different racetracks, Jes An Angel qualified for the Grade 3 Louisiana Downs Futurity in her career debut last March. She won the Old South Futurity at Delta Downs and qualified for the John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile(G3) last May.

Her connections then paid a $50,000 supplement for the daughter of multiple stakes Jess Zoomin to compete in the All American Futurity(G1) trials at Ruidoso, Downs where she promptly posted the fastest qualifying time, but did not compete in the Labor Day final. 

The Texas-bred filly was second in a Dash For Cash Futurity trial at Lone Star Park in September but failed to qualify then finished fourth in the fastest trial for the Black Gold Oaks October 30.

Today leading jockey Bryan Candanosa guided the filly to her sixth win in 10 starts. After getting the first call the sorrel filly extended her lead to three-quarters while completing the 400 yards in :19.711 seconds, a 99 speed index into a 10 mph crosswind.

Trainer Marc Jungers conditions the Jerry Windham bred 2-year-old for owners Lance Moore, Brad Williams and Don Forbes. Bred from the First Down Dash mare Ms Kates Angel, Jes An Angel picked up $152,678 to increase her earnings total to $259,296. She was a $10,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate.

In just her second career start co-fastest qualifier Candys Special Power fought hard to finish second, earning her black type and $64,888. Trainer Jesus Ruiz conditions the Louisiana-bred daughter of Power Jam (TB), from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Candys Special Wagon for owner Ken O'Brien.

PV Quarter Horse Farms, LLC bred the earner of $67,726. Jockey Agustin Silva was aboard Candys Special Power.

Multiple stakes winner and co-fastest qualifier Cartel Kisses finished a head back under jockey Rodrigo Vallejo to earn $41,987 for third. M. Heath Taylor saddled the Kiss My Hocks filly who came to Will Rogers with four consecutive wins including the Rainbow Juvenile Invitational.

Owners Larry and Bobbie Rice paid $50,000 for Cartel Kisses at the 2021 Heritage Place Yearling Sale.  Also the winner of the Easy Jet Stakes at Remington Park she has earned $201,054.  Flag Ranch LLC bred the brown filly from the Carters Cartel mare Midnight Cartel.

Apollitical Chick V, Relentless Diamond, Fox News, Jnd Wagon, Sasie Savannah, Mrs Kvn and Usa All The Way completed the field.
