Stakes Winner Nunothat Sets Fastest Time In $278,165 Black Gold Futurity Championship Trials

CLAREMORE, OK–OCTOBER 31, 2022–Mystic Lake Northlands Juvenile winner Nunothat raced to his third consecutive win on Monday while posting the top qualifying time for the $278,165 Black Gold Futurity Championship(RG3) at Will Rogers Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the Northeastern Oklahoma racetrack on Tuesday, November 15th to vie for winner's purse valued at $111,266.

Nunothat bobbled at the start, under jockey Edwin Escobedo, but recovered quickly to easily put way the field as he stopped the clock in :20.067 seconds, a 90 speed index into a 5 mph headwind for the top mark.

Trainer Jason Olmstead conditions the son of 2022 All American Futurity(G1) sire Hes Relentless for owners Tom Maher and Paul Luedemann. The stakes winning gelding has won four of eight career starts and earned $43,945.

Bred by William E. Smith, from the Grade 1 winner and world record setting Shazoom mare  Fast Prize Zoom, Nunothat was a $38,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate.

Good Night Country drifted in under jockey Agustin Silva but held for a three-quarter length win in the second trial while setting the second fastest time of :20.069, also a 90 speed index into a 5 mph headwind.

Trainer Tammy Kay Johnson saddled the Texas homebred son of Rock Solid Jess for herself and co-owner and breeder Sarah Huskey. Out of the Country Chicks Man mare Country Mans Chick, Good Night Country entered the trials off a win in the John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge in his last start October 2. A winner of two of five starts, he stakes winning gelding has earned $33,722.

Trainer Dee Keener saddled three qualifiers while  Stacy Charette-Hill and Eddie D. Willis had two apiece get into the final. Hes Relentless, Coronado Cartel and Tres Seis were the only sire with multiple qualifiers, getting two each..
