Mi Moonflash Gets Up To Win the $40,000 New Mexico Classic QH Distaff On Saturday

HOBBS, NM—OCTOBER 29, 2022–Mi Moonflash closed best under jockey Alfredo Sigala to win the $40,000 New Mexico Classic QH Distaff Saturday afternoon at Zia Park.

Staring off a win in the Champagne Lane Stakes on October 1st,  post-time favorite Mi Moonflash scored her second consecutive stakes win by defeating First Flashin by a neck.  Hearts Mystic finished a nose back in the blanket finish for third.

Under the direction of trainer Todd Fincher, Mi Moonflash covered the 350 yards in :17.458 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind. It was the seventh career win for the daughter of champion sire First Moonflash.

The New Mexico homebred races for owner-breeders Pierre Amestory, Jr., Leslie Amestory and Roger Beasley.  Bred from the Southern Halo thoroughbred mare Mi Camila, Mi Moonflash earned $24,000 for her effort. The 5-year-old mare has compiled a (22) 7-5-2 record and banked $237,157.

Also a 5-year-old daughter of First Moonflash, runner-up First Flashin earned $8,000 for second. Carlos Acosta, Jr. named jockey Emilio Tapia to ride the sorrel mare for owner Victor Marroquin. Mike Abraham bred the $94,279 earner from the Jumpn mare Stevie Six.

Luiz Perez' Hearts Mystic Rime picked up $4,000 for third. Jose Gonzalez conditions the Hearts Miracle filly from the Major Rime mare Mystic Rime. Paul Nieto had the riding call aboard the Osvaldo Perez New Mexico Bred 4-year-old. She has earned $68,929 in14 starts.

Tina Katarina, Crown N Royal Gal, La Bella Julia, Icy Morning Breeze, Streak Jess Memory, Eyes On Mollie and Osberryfast completed the field.
