PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ—SEPTEMBER 15, 2021—A clean trip under jockey Jacquelyn Bobroff propelled Abc Nalaki (6-1) to her first career win in the $36,385 Arizona Downs Quarter Horse Futurity at Arizona Downs Wednesday afternoon.
Coming off a third-place effort to the fastest qualifier in the August 25th trials, Abc Nalaki posted a three-quarter length over Dangerous Dude in today's final while completing the 400 yards in :19.922 seconds, a 91 speed index into an 11 mph headwind.
Longtime trainer Lin Melton sent out the Idaho-bred daughter of leading third-crop sire Apollitical Blood for owner-breeders Bob and Scott Giltner. A finalist in the Wyoming Downs Futurity two races back, the sorrel filly is out of Docs Check by Check Him Out. The $18,192 winner's purse today boosted Abc Nalaki's earnings total to $21,533, off a (5) 1-1-2 record.
Pretty Lethal Eagle, a California-bred son of leading second-crop sire One Fabulous Eagle, was a nose back to earn $3,639 for third. Trainer Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela named Joseph Belloc, Jr. to ride the One Fabulous Eagle filly for owner Joseph Belloc. Veronica Kawananakoa bred Pretty Lethal Eagle in California.
Completing the field were Mr Icon Six, Pragmatik, Remember Denny, Cant Catch Aubrey, Texas First Icon, Fearlously Ivory and Clever Conundrum.
