Gg Friendship Earns First Career Stakes Win in $13,600 Oneida County Derby

MALAD, ID—AUGUST 9, 2020—Gg Friendship upset the field to win the $13,600 Oneida County Derby (not black-type) by a length on Sunday afternoon.

Ridden by Cordarelton Benn, Gg Friendship ($21.80) was clear early and maintained a strong lead to win the 300-yard race in 15.404 for a 92 speed index.

Gg Friendship is trained by Kyle Dahlke for Lonna Gerstner. The Turbulent Times filly was bred in Idaho by Scott and Bob Giltner, out of Stolen Ivory, by Ivory James.

Gg Friendship won her trial and was the third fastest qualifier. She is now four for nine lifetime with $15,118 in career earnings. Last year, she finished second in the Oneida County Futurity.

Stablemate Tricky Dasher ran second with Raphael Romero aboard for owners J.P. Sample and Lonna Gerstner. The Favorite Cartel filly was bred in Idaho by John Firth, out of Laters Baby, by Walk Thru Fire.

Tricky Dasher has never finished worse than fourth in her eight career starts. He was the fourth fastest qualifier and was third in the same trial that produced fastest qualifier Quickluckybunny.

Sixth fastest qualifier Mz Corona was up for third in the final with Jesus Flores aboard for trainer Alejandro Martinez and owner Agapo Martinez. He was bred in Idaho by Thomas Boyd and Betty Weeks, by Merry for Corona and out of Bw De Stuff, by The Flight Stuff.

Completing the field were Quickluckybunny, Liquid Courage B and Eyem Country. Jess One Sweet Nite and Meghans Feature Sign were scratched.

The Oneida County Derby was the last of four Quarter Horse stakes on the Sunday afternoon card.

In the $4,800 All Breed 89 Speed Index and Under Stakes (not black-type), Cruzin Muncie ($5.40) scored a narrow victory in the 300-yard event in 15.416 for a 91 speed index. The Inseperable gelding was ridden by Brian Beetem for owner and trainer Duane Lafferty. He was bred in Oklahoma by W.R. Ward, out of Dashin Strawberry, by Dashing Val.

In the $4,000 Thomas Market Overnight Futurity, Aztec Dynasty ($2.80) and jockey Eric Ayala closed to win by a nose in 15.729 for an 81 speed index. Aztec Dynasty is owned, trained and bred by Antonio Tinoco, by Jr Dynasty Mountain and out of Laazteca, by Ausual Suspect.
