Relentless Seis Breaks Maiden in $67,335 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury

SHAKOPEE, MN—JULY 7, 2020—Relentless Seis edged out longshot Bad Monkey by a nose to win the $67,335 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity at Canterbury on Tuesday evening.

Relentless Seis ($8.40), with Denny Velazquez aboard, powered home in 17.385 for the 350-yard stake to earn a 106 speed index.

Relentless Seis is owned by Tom and Bill Maher and is trained by Jason Olmstead; the same connections won the 2019 edition of the race with Tipsy Girl B. The Hes Relentless gelding was bred in South Dakota by Tom Scheckel, Tom Maher and Bill Maher, out of Tritoon, by Tres Seis.

He was the second fastest qualifier and finished second in his trial behind Jess One Lane.

Bad Monkey and Cody Smith were involved in the tight win photo as the second highest price on the board. Bad Monkey is a triple play for owner, breeder and trainer Dean Frey, who bred the gray gelding in California. He is by Capo de Capi, out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Girls Eye Too.

Bad Monkey made his career debut in the MQHRA Stallion Auction trial and was fifth in the fast trial that produced the top three finishers. He was the eighth fastest qualifier.

Fastest qualifier Jess One Lane finished third in the final as the post-time favorite with Jorge Torres up.

Jess One Lane is trained by Vic Hanson for owner Spencer Cordes. He was bred in Texas by Brian Saathoff, by One Sweet Jess and out of a Thoroughbred mare Girl in the Lane by Devon Lane.

Jess One Lane debuted at Remington park before breaking his maiden in the trial.

The 2020 MQHRA Stallion Auction Futurity is restricted to horses whose sires were donated to the 2017 MQHRA Stallion Auction. Three trials on June 16 determined the field for Tuesday night’s final.

Completing the field were One Kool Dreamer, Eyesa Timber, Easter Eve Bug, Girl Like You, Hasta Be a Moose, Flinging Paint and Corona White Socks.
