Unique Ways Fastest Qualifier to Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity

JEROME, ID—JUNE 9, 2019—With a dominating gate-to-wire victory, Unique Ways posted the fastest qualifying time to the $7,000-added Roche Equine Veterinary Services Futurity in Jerome on Sunday afternoon.

Unique Ways and Eric Ayala covered the 350 yards in 18.062 and earned a speed index of 90 in the second of two trials. The pair defeated the field by nearly two lengths.

Unique Ways ($3.00) was a heavy favorite in the field of seven nominated 2-year-olds with just eight starts among them. The Teller Cartel filly is now two for two; she debuted and broke her maiden at Pocatello, winning by a length and a quarter.

Bred in Idaho by her owner, Dan Moon, Unique Ways is out of the Hadtobenuts mare Wayward Wings. She is trained by Monte Arrossa.

The second and third overall fastest qualifiers came from the first trial. The winner, Jess Cruizen, set a time of 18.169 and earned an 87 speed index.

Eric Ayala and Monte Arrossa teamed up again for the win, this time for owners Steve Ralston and Billy Petersen. Steve Ralston also bred the Apollitical Jess filly in Utah out of Shaded in Speed, by Corona Cartel.

Jess Cruizen ($5.00) made her career debut in the trial.

Second-place finisher Shes a Sweet Return overcame an awkward break to defeat third-place finisher Lavish Interest by three-quarters of a length. Shes a Sweet Return turned in the third fastest overall time of 18.380 and earned an 81 speed index.

Shes a Sweet Return is owned by Andrea and Eddy Jensen and is also trained by Monte Arrossa. She was bred in Utah by The Running A LLC, by High Rate of Return and out of Eyesa Specialy Sweet, by Eyesa Special. Sunday’s trial was her fourth career start.
