PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ—JUNE 8, 2019—Two divisions for the $15,000 Wayne Brasher Memorial Stakes were conducted on Saturday a Arizona Downs.
Wayne Brasher Memorial-Division 1
Be Quite, a 4-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Kiddy Up, defeated post-time favorite Jess A Cowboy by a neck in the first Wayne Brasher Memorial Stakes Saturday afternoon. Texas Tornadoe finished another neck back in the blanket finish to get third.
Jose Mendoza owns the sorrel gelding out of Thinking Out Loud by Check Him Out. Bred by Edward C. Allred, Be Quite picked up $8,250 to boost his bankroll to $44,557.
Multiple stakes winner Jess A Cowboy earned $3,000 for owner/breeder Larry Stark and trainer Matthew Fales. Oscar Andrade, Jr. rode the 7-year-old Dejon gelding out of Secret Return by Canth. He has compiled a (37) 11-11-5 record and banked $223,147.
Third-place finisher Texas Tornadoe is also a multiple stakes winning Arizona-bred. Raul Valenzuela trains the Texas Icon 4-year-old for owner Angel Valenzuela. Ralph and Carolyn Fales bred the $45,489 earner from the Dixieland Heat (TB) mare Its A Dry Heat (TB). Luis Valenzuela was riding.
Heza Eagle, Docs Tocallos, Liddle Doc, L Bar D Classic Trip, Ur My Favorite and Beduinos Royalcorona completed the field. Dominate This was scratched.
Wayne Brasher Memorial-Division 2
Coming off a win in the Bank of America Turf Paradise Championship Challenge in April, Pirate Coves Hero defeated Takoradi by a neck in Division 2 of the Wayne Brasher Memorial on Saturday. May Be Fantastic Sa finished half-a-length back in third.
It was the sixth career win in 13 starts for the Oklahoma-bred gelding out of American Feature by Feature Mr Jess. The $8,250 winners' purse pushed Pirate Cove Hero's earnings past $70,000. Reliance Ranches LLC is the breeder.
Jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr. had the riding call aboard runner-up Takoradi for owner Abram Belloc and trainer Uberto Belloc. Bobby D. Cox bred the Ivory James horse in Texas from the First Down Dash mare All About Ease. The $3,000 payday raised Takoradi's earnings mark to $22,562.
Completing the official order of finish were Discrete, Walk It Man, Jenna Cartel, Streakin Pr, Dig Deeper, Jess Dale First and Volcano.
