Number One Interest Breaks Maiden In Four Corners Futurity

FARMINGTON, NM—JUNE 2, 2019—Number One Interest (20-1) was speed all the way under jockey Irving Delgado-Bustillos, breaking his maiden with a neck win over Woodbeacartel in the $82,379 Four Corners Futurity Sunday afternoon at SunRay Park. Mister Mucho Gusto finished another neck back in the blanket finish to take third.

Conditioned by trainer Ruben Leyba, Number One Interest completed the 350 yards in :17.781 seconds, to pick up the winner's purse valued at $38,718. It was the first win from three starts for the bay filly who entered the race off game third in the May 19th trials.

Samantha and Lilly Leyba own the Arizona-bred daughter of first-crop sire Separate Interest from the Dash For Cash mare One Slick Cookie. The $17,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate was bred by Allred Brothers Ranch LLC. She has earned nearly $40,000 in three career starts.

Runner-up Woodbeacartel finished strong under jockey Daniel Amaya to bank $14,828 for owner/breeder David Meridyth. Guadalupe Munoz, Jr. trains the Texas-bred daughter of Krash Cartel from the Woodbridge mare Lady Woodbridge. Winless in four starts, the black filly has finished second in her last three starts.

Mister Mucho Gusto, a $13,500 Heritage Place September Yearling Sale graduate, picked up $9,062 for third, boosting is bankroll to more than $27,000. Jose Luis Muela trains the son of multiple stakes sire Freighttrain B for owners Diamond Racing Stables and U S Alliance Logistic. Under jockey Esgar Ramirez the brown gelding fought gamely as the posttime favorite.

Bred in Oklahoma by Bobby D. Cox, from the Azoom mare Zumbaya, Mister Mucho Gusto was also a finalist in the Grade 2 West Texas Futurity at Sunland Park in April. His second dam is the Grade 1 producer and Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner All About Ease by First Down Dash.

Number One Interest rewarded backers with $42.20 to win, $13.20 to show and $6 to place. Woodbeacartel paid $11.40 and $5.20 and Mister Mucho Gusto returned $2.40 to show. The 3-2 $2 exacta paid a whopping $415.40 while the 3-2-6 Trifecta returned $857.80.

Kings Or Else, Javiers Hustle, Apollos Big Daddy, Sammy Baugh, Favoriteuntoldstory, Wow What A Dynasty and Cole N Kitty completed the field.
