OGDEN, UT—JUNE 1, 2019—Corona By Corona, a royally-bred daughter of leading sire Corona Cartel, put on a dominating performance Saturday when she defeated fastest qualifier Locomotion Girl by two-lengths in the $42,000 Utah Bred Derby at Weber Downs. Bf Mightymemorylane finished none back to take third.
Ridden by jockey Jesus Valenzuela, Corona B Corona went to wire-to-wire over the 350 yards in :17.862 seconds, equaling a 96 speed index on a fast track. Trainer Riley Moosman conditions the 3-year-old filly for owner Keith W. Nellesen.
Bred in Utah by McColee Land & Livestock LLC, from the multiple stakes winning Jess Louisiana Blue mare Louisana Corona, Corona By Corona has compiled a (13) 5-3-2 record and today's winners' purse valued at $16,800 boosted her lifetime earnings to $46,753. She won the Holiday Handicap and was second in the Ed Burke Million Juvenile at Los Alamitos Race Course last yaer.
Runner-up Locomotion Girl, a Utah-bred daughter of champion sire Desirio, picked up $8,400 for her second-placed effort. Scott Goodrich conditions the sorrel filly for owner Albert Sacco. The Running A LLC bred Locomotion Girl from the County Chicks Man mare Commotion Motion. Francisco Linan had the riding call.
Trainer Alvaro Torres saddled third-place finisher Bf Mightymemorylane for owner Jon Lane Henderson. Danny Marshall was aboard the Mighty B Valiant filly out of Bf Memory Lane by Maknmoves. Bred by Birrell Farms, Bf Mightymemorylane earned $4,200 for the effort.
Completing the field were Sheza Vital Secret, Sheebee A Banshee, Separatefromothers, Crown Apple, Rf Fames Favorite and Mister Fdd.
