Eagle Deluxe Pulls Off Upset of Heavily Favored Preyn Onthe Mountain In Feature Sunday at Remington

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 28, 2019—In his 2019 debut, Preyn Onthe Mountain ran a tight second to last year’s winner of the $846,000 Remington Park Futurity, Lyndder 16. It seemed a foregone conclusion that Preyn Onthe Mountain would find the winner’s circle next time out. Guess again.

That next time was Sunday at Remington Park. Eagle Deluxe, a 6-1 competitor of Preyn Onthe Mountain in the featured $25,150 allowance event proved races aren’t won on paper, however. The 4-year-old horse out of trainer Jason Olmstead’s barn cruised to the front from the 10-hole with jockey Cristian Esqueda up and outstretched Preyn Onthe Mountain to the wire, beating the prohibitive 6-5 betting favorite by a neck.

Eagle Deluxe, a son of One Famous Eagle, out of the Corona Cartel mare Corona Deluxe, hit the wire in 17.504 seconds over a fast track for the 350-yard race to earn a speed index of 90. He earned $12,526 for his owners Tom and Bill Maher and Movin On from Pierre, S.D. His record now stands at 20 starts, three wins, five seconds and six thirds. Eagle Deluxe’s lifetime bankroll increased to $110,473. He was bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms LLC.

On March 17 at Remington Park, Lynnder 16, that Remington Park Futurity winner from 2018, beat Preyn Onthe Mountain by a nose. Apparently, Preyn Onthe Mountain just can’t beat a horse trained by Olmstead and ridden by Esqueda, who are also the connections of Lynnder 16.

After Sunday’s loss to Eagle Deluxe, Preyn Onthe Mountain has run second four times and first twice, in just six starts. Whether it had anything to do with the outcome of Sunday’s race or not, he broke loose from his jockey and handler in the paddock and had to be chased down. West Texas Dasher V finished third behind those top two today, three-quarters of a length back of Preyn Onthe Mountain.

Racing continues Thursday at Remington Park with 11 races beginning at 6 p.m. The feature events on Thursday include the $68,000 Mr Jet Moore Stakes and the Grade 2, $50,000 Pauls Valley Stakes. Friday and Saturday racing on April 5 & 6 feature qualifying trials for the Remington Park Futurity. Sunday afternoon, April 7, will feature trials for the Remington Park Derby.
