Splendid Cause, With Red Hot Jockey James Flores Up, Wins Feature Race

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 23, 2019—Jockey James Flores was in the winner’s circle this weekend almost as much as the track photographer, winning Sunday’s feature race at Remington Park with Splendid Cause for his eighth victory in two days.

Flores won six races on Saturday night, including four stakes races, and two more on Sunday to make him the hottest thing going since March Madness.

Splendid Cause, a 4-year-old mare by Apollitical Jess, out of the Tres Seis mare Answer The Dream, won a $29,650 allowance race for fillies and mares, 3-years-old-and-up, going 330 yards. She is owned and was bred in Oklahoma by J. Garvan Kelly, Nancy Yearsley and J. Lloyd Yother of Culver City, Calif., and trained by Dee Keener. She earned $17,288, giving her lifetime earnings of $81,969, with four wins from 21 starts.

Flores’ six winning horses on Saturday earned a total of $342,928 in purse money. So it was no surprise when Flores, last year’s title-winning jockey at Remington Park, followed up with a riding double on Sunday. As they say, you can’t stop him, you can only hope to contain him.

Splendid Cause finished in front by three-quarters of a length and her time of 16.503 seconds was worth a speed index of 99. Our Lady Wagon ran second, a neck in front of third-place finisher Tempting Annee Gl. The winner paid $7.60 to win, $4.20 to place and $2.80 to show, going off at 5-2 odds as the second betting choice. This mare had run in three stakes races prior to dropping into allowance-company today. All of those stakes were on the West Coast at Los Alamitos in southern California.

Racing continues Thursday thru Sunday, March 28-31. The first race nightly is at 6pm with Sunday racing at 1:30pm. All times Central.
