Eastex Stakes Won By Favored Political Attraction At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MARCH 23, 2019— Political Attraction won the Grade 2, $60,420 Eastex Stakes on Saturday at Remington Park for owner Rogelio Marquez Jr. and Kathy Robinson of Claremore, Okla. The 4-year-old gelding rallied along the rail to win by three-quarters of a length over Mi Amor Secreto.

Trained by Rick Robinson and ridden to victory by James Flores, Political Attraction was the wagering favorite at even-money, paying $4.20 to win, $3 to place and $2.40 to show. He handled the 350 yards in :17.363 over a fast track. Hes Limitless was third, finishing a head behind the runner-up after briefly leading the race at the start.

The victory was the seventh from 15 attempts for Political Attraction, an Oklahoma-bred gelding by Apollitical Jess from the Separatist mare Gunsight Peak. He was bred Ron Lyles.

Political Attraction made $37,284 to run his career earnings to $388,390 in his first start of 2019.

Mi Amor Secreto races for owner/breeder Kelly Perez and trainer Marcos Carrizales. Jockey Santos Carrizales had the riding call aboard the gelded son of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel from the Feature Mr Jess mare Streakin In Secret. The $10,828 runner-up purse boosted Mi Amor Secreto earnings mark to $107,688.

Multiple Grade-1 placed Hes Limitless pushed his earning total to $338,681 after pocketing $6,836 for third. John Stinebaugh trains the son of leading sire Corona Cartel from the champion mare PJ Chick In Black, by Desirio, for owner Jack Smith Farms. D. Bowen, S. Taylor and J. Smith Farms bred the brown gelding in Oklahoma.

Completing the Eastex field were Born To B Bad, Admiral Sting, Myst Fit, High Rate Of Motion, Ja Big Bad Gol and Jfr Moonshine.

The Eastex is named after the winner of the 1984 All American Futurity who at one time was the sport’s all-time leading money earner. He held the record for most money earned by a 2-year-old until 2008. Eastex retired in his home state, living out his years in Norman, Okla. He often led the post parade of the race named in his honor before passing away at age 32, in 2013.

Remington Park racing continues on Sunday, March 24 with a 10-race afternoon program underway at 1:30pm-Central.
