PORTLAND, OR—DECEMBER 16, 2018—Loosin My Lover (45-1) battled to the wire to defeat Willy B Gone by a head and post-time favorite Gc Harrys Game in a blanket finish Sunday for the $30,115 Baxter Andruss Futurity at Portland Meadows.
Ridden by jockey Erick Garcia, the Sixteen (TB) gelding completed the 400 yards in :20.402 seconds over a sloppy racetrack to get this first career win.
Trainer Juan Leon saddled the sorrel gelding for owner Sergio Leon. David McBride bred Lo0sin My Lover from the Hawkinson mare Lover Cat. A finalist in the Far West Futurity and the Pot O'Gold Futurity earlier this year, Loosin My Lover earned $12,046 to increase his earnings total to $16,427.
Willy B Gone, colt by multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue, earned $5,120 for his second place effort. Hector Magallanes trains the brown colt for owner Chris Philbrook. <>
Fastest qualifier Gc Harrys Game veered out under jockey Robert Burney put in a game effort to get third for owner Connie Chumbley and trainer Scott Raley. The Carters Cartel gelding came into the futurity with a three-race win streak including the Far West Futurity at Portland Meadows last month. The $3,131 purse increased his bankroll to $21,631.
Loosin My Lover returned a whopping $92 to win, $24.20 to place and $12.60 to show. Willy B Gone paid $4.80 to place and $3.40 to show and Gc Harrys Game returned $2.10 to show.
Ivory Bac, L Bar D Top Prospect, One Special Dynasty, Kountry Fun, Hawkin Sun and Er Cartel completed the field.
