Singles Cruise Takes Third Straight With Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity Win on Sunday

ROCKY VIEW, ALB—OCTOBER 21, 2018—Singles Cruise got his third stakes win on Sunday by getting a neck in front of Timberskinightryder in the $56,252(US) Canada Quarter Horse Cup Futurity at Century Downs. Papas Coleen finished half-a-length back in third.

Singles Cruise broke outward, responded to encouragement leaving the chute from jockey Cesar Cervantes to get up at the wire in :19.944 seconds for the 400 yards.

Trainer Janice Sather saddled the California-bred son of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel for herself and Barry Sather. In July the brown filly won the Jerry Stojan Memorial Stakes, then bounced off a third-place effort in the Evergreen Park Juvenile trials to win the August 19 final at Grande Prairie.

Pre-entered in the November 17th Grade 2 $125,000-est. John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship, Singles Cruise has compiled a (7) 5-0-1 record. The $25,658(US) Canada Cup Futurity winners' purse doubled the filly's earnings $52,241. Steve D. Burns DVM, bred the Singles Cruise from the Mr Eye Opener mare Going Single.

Timbersknightryder, a son of leading Canadian sire First Timber, picked up $9,659(US) for his second-place effort. Trainer James Doolin conditions the graded stakes winning 2-year-old for owner Tony Laczo.

Ridden by Ramiro Castillo, the bay gelding, out Sparkling Hy by Hez Choice Property, won the restricted Grade 3 Alberta-Bred Futurity at Century Downs last month. Bred by Isaak Feher, Timbersknightryder has earned $36,464.

Owner-breeder and trainer Donalda Cochrane saddled third-place finisher Papas Coleen, also a 2-year-old by First Timber. Martin Ortiz rode the chestnut filly out of Cash In This Lane by Lanes Leinster. A winner of two of six starts, Papas Coleen picked up $5,682(US) to double her earnings to $10,868.

O Kingsley, Special Corona Wave, Zoomn Wave, Jb Runaway Special, Poutn And Zoomin, and Always Right completed the field. Goldin Warrior was scratched.
