Flying Cowboy 123 Draws Away For Fastest Time In Million-Dollar Texas Classic Futurity Trials

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 20, 2018—All American Futurity(G1) winning trainer G. Blane Wood and champion jockey Ricky Ramirez teamed to qualify two horses to the Grade 1 Texas Classic Futurity on Saturday night at Lone Star Park.

Rainbow Futurity(G1) runner-up Flying Cowboy 123 drew off to a 1-½ length win in the seventh of 14 trials to get the top qualifying time over the 129 2-year-olds who participated for a spot in the $1,018,077 November 10th final.

The son of leading sire Apollitical Jess clocked a :19.607, a 101 speed index on a muddy track into a 10 mph crosswind. Wood trains the $100,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate for owner Paragon Farms LLC. Bred in Michigan by Carolyn Bay, the sorrel colt has won three of five starts this season and banked $192,900.

A half-brother to AQHA racing world champion Cold Cash 123, Flying Cowboy 123 is out of the Takin On The Cash mare Hot Cash 123.

Two races later, Ramirez was back aboard Wood's 2018 All American Futurity(G1) winner Apocalyptical Jess. The leading money earner scored his third consecutive win by a half-a-length to get the 8th fastest clocking of :19.781 seconds.

Ramirez also qualified Apocalyptical Jess for the $3 million All American Futurity(G1) but pulled off to ride Rainbow Futurity(G1) winner Mm Fourninthemorning. Jockey Raul Ramirez, Jr. picked up the mount and the big win in the Labor Day final.

The sorrel gelding races for owner Bill T. Robbins. Also by Apollitical Jess, Danny Joe Miller bred Apocalyptical Jess in Oklahoma from the Holland Ease mare Cassandra Crest. He has compiled a (5) 3-1-0 record and earned $1,509,700 this season.

Champion Tempting Dash got the first of two finalists in 4th when Tdz A Fast Player defeated Jess Master Angel by a neck to get the second fastest time of :19.621 seconds, a 99 speed index.

Trainer Toby Keeton saddled the Louisiana home-bred for owner-breeder Tony Doughtie. Agustin Silva rode the bay gelding from the multiple graded winning Game Patriot mare Jes A Game. Tdz A Fast Player broke his maiden at Sam Houston in April got his second career win tonight after competing at Delta and Ruidoso Downs over the summer. He has earned $11,601.

The royally bred Jess Master Angel held on for the third-fastest time of :19.661, a 98 speed index. Ridden by jockey Jose Beltran, the Janessa Muniz trainee battled the entire way.

A homebred by the #4 leading first-crop sire Dash Master Jess racing for owner-breeder Cesar Rosales, Jess Master Angel is out the multiple stakes winner Mi Angela, a half-sister leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. She is a daughter of Jet Black Patriot.

Jess Master Angel has compiled a (5) 1-1-1 record. A qualifier to the Grade 2 Sam Houston Futurity and the RG3 TQHA Sale Futurity, he has earned $36,604 this season.

Coming off a big win in the $200,000 All American Juvenile on Labor Day, Dajer got fourth consecutive victory under champion jockey Cody Jensen in the second trial. The son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty stopped the clock in :19.591 seconds to get the fourth fastest time.

Breeder-trainer Dean Frey conditions the brown gelding for himself, Billy G. Smith and Downtime Enterprises, LLC. Frey bred Dajer in Oklahoma from the Take Off Jess mare Shez Jess Toxic. He has earned nearly $100,000 in six starts.

Making his first start since winning the Grade 3 $371,200 Oklahoma Derby at Remington Park in March, Long Wagon Ho kept his record a perfect 3-for-3 while defeating fellow qualifier Shockinglyfamous by a neck in the 10th.

Owned-and-trained by Julio Corral, the lightly raced son of Pyc Paint Your Wagon has banked $157,564 this season. The $13,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate was bred in Louisiana, by Grant Farms LLC, from the Strawfly Special mare The Long Straw. Alfredo Triana, Jr. had the riding call.

Sam Houston Futurity(G1) winner Fm Im A Zatanaz Too kicked off the trials with a half-length win in the 1st race then held on to the 6th fastest clocking of :19.745 seconds, a 96 speed index. Trainer Robert Meche saddled the son of champion sire Tempting Dash to his sixth win in nine starts for owner Jose Fabian Hernandez.

Bred by McColee Land & Livestock from the Mr Jess Perry mare Dashingfordestiny, Fm Im A Zatanaz Too has earned $272,627. He was second in the Firecracker Futurity(G2) in July and a finalist in the Retama Juvenile Challenge and Dash For Cash Futurity(G2).

Trial races 11, 12 and 13 failed to crack the bubble-time, then Eagles Fly Higher got the 7th fastest clocking in the last trial, with a time of :19.762 seconds, a 96 speed index.

The son of leading sire One Famous Eagle is owned by Vernon Harman & Robert T. Moudy III and trained by Trey Ellis. Rodrigo Vallejo rode the Remington Park Juvenile winner to his fourth career win from six starts. An earner of nearly $70,000 he was also 4th in the Easy Jet Stakes at Remington Park. The Oklahoma homebred is out of Lone Bet by First Down Dash.

Wushocker, a Kansas-bred son of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue, finished a head off Eagles Fly High to get the 9th fastest time for owners Denis and Julie Schoenhofer.

Bred by Nancy McCoy, from the First Down Dash mare Requestaove, Wushocker broke his maiden for a $15,000-tag at Will Rogers Downs on September 22. He was ridden by jockey Mario Delgado.

Under 10-time AQHA Racing champion jockey G.R. Carter, Jr., Shockinglyfamous battled Long Wagon Ho all-the way to get the 10th qualifying spot, with a final clocking of :19.796, a 95 speed index.

The son of leading sire One Famous Eagle races for owners Stone Chase Stables LLC and Alexia Willis and is trained by Kasey Willis. Bred by Clarence Scharbauer III, the bay colt is out of Shocktime, a Thoroughbred daughter of Langfuhr.

Around the Track

Through week five of the meet Jesse Levario is hanging on top of the rider standings with 11 wins. Alejandro Zuniga is in second place with nine wins and Nestor Duran holds third with seven. Josue Ponce has a four length win over 2nd place which is a three-way tie between Adrian Huitron, Rolando Almanza and Blane Wood who each have six wins apiece. Live racing resumes Friday, October 26 and features the Texas Arabian Stakes and the final leg of the Friday Night Lights Gridiron Challenge Series 100-yard dash. Gates open at 5 p.m. First race post time 6:05 p.m.
