Curls Happy Wagon Posts Top Mark in Grade 1 $378,810 Texas Classic Derby Trials

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 19, 2018—Curls Happy Wagon ran the biggest race of her career Friday night when she defeated This Is A Deal by a neck to the set the fastest qualifying time for the Grade 1 Texas Classic Derby at Lone Star Park.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from 46 3-year-olds who competed in five trial races, will return to Lone Star Park on closing night, Saturday, November 10th to vie for the winner's share of the $378,810 purse going 440 yards.

Ridden by jockey Jorge Torres, Curls Happy Wagon completed the 440 yards on a sloppy (sealed) showery racetrack in :21.417 seconds, a 99 speed index, to get the top qualifying mark.

Trainer Stacy Charette-Hill saddled the daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon to her fourth career win in seven starts for owners Michael Pohl and Martin Stacy. The Oklahoma homebred, out of Eye A Pit Curl Girl by Spit Curl Jess, was a finalist in the Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby last Spring at Remington Park. She has earned $33,529.

Rainbow Derby(G1) runner-up Hes Limitless rolled to a half-length win, under jockey Agustin Silva, in the final trial to get the second fastest time of :21.432 seconds, also a 99 speed index.

Trainer John Stinebaugh saddled the son of leading living sire Corona Cartel for owner Jack Smith Farms. Out of Ruidoso Futurity(G1) winner Pj Chick In Black by Desirio, Hes Limitless has earned $439,610. The bay gelding was also a finalist in the Grade 1 All American Futurity and Derby last summer at Ruidoso Downs.

Sarah Huskey's graded stakes winning homebred Serendipity Rocks defeated Intense Fire and All American Derby(G1) winner Hotstepper in the fourth trial to get the third fastest time of :21.466 seconds, a 98 speed index.

Jockey Noe Villatoro had the riding call aboard the 2018 Sam Houston Derby(G3) winner for trainer Esteban Rubio. The Rock Solid Jess gelding out of Precious Serendipity by Behold A Beduino has earned $98,481.

Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby(RG3) winner Df Aj Green Leaves defeated Another Shot by a neck in the opening trial to get the 8th fastest time of :21.548 seconds. Champion jockey Rodrigo Vallejo was aboard the daughter of leading sire Apollitical Jess for trainer Jimmy Padgett, II.

Darling Farms owns the Oklahoma-bred filly from the Tres Seis mare Three Green Leaves. Second in the Grade 3 Heritage Place Derby and a finalist in the Rainbow Derby(G1), Df Aj Green Leaves has earned $280,159. Kelly/Yearsley Equine LLC is the breeder.
