Sf Hot Pass Wire-to-Wire Winner In Saturday's Grade 1 Refrigerator Stakes

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 13, 2018—Under jockey Francisco Calderon multiple stakes winner Sf Hot Pass got away alertly, dueled throughout then held sway by a head over posttime favorite Eye N Capo at the wire Saturday night in the $75,000 Grade 1 Refrigerator Stakes at Lone Star Park. Apollitical Cyclone was another head back in the blanket finish to take third.

Conditioned by veteran trainer Leon Bard, Sf Hot Pass cruised over the muddy (sealed) Lone Star Park racing surface in a quick :21.198 seconds, equaling a 105 speed index.

It was the third straight stakes victory this season for the Shannon Fisher owned son of multiple stake sire Ivory James. The 5-year-old gelding entered the race off a win in the Nevill Stakes on September 29th, opening night for the 2018 Lone Star Park Quarter Horse meeting. Prior to that Sf Hot Pass won the RG2 TQHA Classic Stakes at Retama Park in July.

P & J Racing and D. Stroebel bred the gelding in Texas from the Mr Jess Perry mare Passem Up Perry. With a perfect 3-for-3 record in 2018, Sf Hot Pass has compiled a (14) 5-2-0 overall record and the $41,250 Refrigerator winner's purse boosted his lifetime mark to $95,780.

Multiple graded winner Eye N Capo exchanged bumps early but rallied under jockey Jesse Levario to finish second for owner Rueben Montemayor.

Trainer Josue Ponce saddled the Capo de Capi 4-year-old who was bred in Oklahoma by Dee and Betty Raper. Out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Satisfeyen, the bay gelding has won eight of 15 career starts and banked nearly $454,000.

Bred in Iowa by Craig Kirby, the multiple stakes-placed 5-year-old earned $7,500 for his effort.
