Island Gurl Dominates Future Of Iowa Stakes

ALTOONA, IA—OCTOBER 13, 2018—Island Gurl, a 5-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Pappasito lunged at the start under jockey Jorge Torres then quickly pulled away to defeat Wagon Queen by one-length in the $60,000 Future Of Iowa Stakes Saturday at Prairie Meadows. Miss Alice Grace finished a neck back in third.

Conditioned by trainer Tony Dean Jones, Island Gurl completed the 350 yards in :18.038 seconds into a 20 mph headwind to pick up the winners' purse of $28,200.

Richard Tobin owns the bay mare out of Streakin Out by Heza Fast Man. She has compiled a (18) 8-3-2 record and banked $115,281. Sheri Lynn Andrew is the breeder.

Brent Clay saddled runner-up Wagons Queen, a homebred daughter of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon, for owner-breeders Robert and Sandra Brown and co-owner John Lawless.

Ridden by jockey David Brown the 3-year-old filly out of Queen Of Anywhere by Make It Anywhere, earned $11,070 to nearly double her earnings total to $26,813.

Miss Alice Grace, a 4-year-old homebred daughter of Jess Racy, owned by Larry Bain earned $6,330 for third. Charley Hunt saddled the sorrel filly from the Chicks Beduino mare Beduinos Heart. Jonathan Dominguez was riding the $48,430 earner.

Mga Lil Kool Wagon, Boogie Wagon, Stoli Cartel, Kool Lil Jess and Spooftrain 7 completed the field.
