Fillies Dead-Heat For Top Mark In New Mexico Cup Futurity(RG2) Trials at Zia Park

HOBBS, NM—OCTOBER 13, 2018—Longshot Tooflashyforyou(9-1) got up at the wire to tie RG2-placed Woods Copy Cat in the first of seven trial Saturday for the $300,000-est. New Mexico Cup Futurity(RG2) at Zia Park.

The two state-bred fillies stopped the timer in :19.854 seconds, into a 7 mph headwind, to share the top qualifying spot from 66 two-year-olds who participated in the trials.

Trainer Cynthia Gonzalez saddled New Mexican Spring Fling Futurity(RG2) runner-up Woodys Copy Cat for owner Enrique Barrera.

Ridden by jockey Manuel Gutierrez, Woodys Copy Cat has compiled a (6) 2-2-1 record this season and banked nearly $90,000. She was second in the New Mexican Spring Fling Futurity(RG2) then finished 9th in the Four Corners Futurity at SunRay Park on June 1.

After a short layoff Woodys Copy Cat broke her maiden at Albuquerque in August then got her second win in today's trials. MJ Farms bred the brown filly form the Heza Fast Man mare Fast Copy Miss.

Tooflashyforyou, a lightly raced daughter of champion sire First Mooonflash, got her second career win in three starts under jockey Esgar Ramirez. Trainer Harvey Baeza conditions the bay filly for owner-breeder's Sissie and Bob McClure.

Trainer Wesley T. Giles saddled Saul to his third win in as many starts in the fifth trial. Coming off a win in the New Mexico Breeders' Futurity(RG2) at SunRay Park in May, the gray son of Sign To Be A Runaway was ridden by jockey Adrian Ramos. Bred by Jill Giles, the $63,306 owner races for Jill Giles, Megan Hourigan and Cory Taylor. She is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare The Rainbow Rea.

RG2 winner Zee James got her fifth win seven starts in the 4th trial under jockey Adrian Ramos to secure the final qualifying spot with a :20.026 clocking.

Giles also trains the daughter of Jesses James Jr from the On A High mare On A Bunny. Winner of the New Mexico Spring Fling Futurity(RG2) at Sunland and a finalist in the Zia Park Futurity(RG1) at Ruidoso, Zee James has earned $220,874.

First Moonflash led all sires with three qualifiers, Woodbridge and Jesse James Jr had two each. Trainers Rodolfo Valles and Giles were the only trainers two qualifiers apiece.
