Spy For The Senate Battles Shes Sizzling For Top Mark In Alex Picov Memorial Futurity Trials

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 17, 2018—Spy For Senate dueled to a nose win over Shes Sizzling in the second of two trials for the Alex Picov Memorial Futurity Monday afternoon at Ajax Downs.

Under jockey Cerapio Figueroa Spy For The Senate completed his 400 yard task in :20.190 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index with a 5-mph tailwind to establish the top qualifying time.

Runner-up Shes Sizzling and jockey Ramiro Castillo recorded a :20.200 clocking, also a 94 speed index, to get the second fastest qualifying time.

Spy For The Senate was the first of four qualifiers for owner Milena Kwiecien and trainer Jason Pascoe. Bred in Oklahoma by Mary Hainline, Spy For The Senate has compiled a (6) 2-2-0 record this season and banked $11,641.

After making her first two starts at Remington Park the son of multiple stakes sire Louisiana Senator, from the Corona Cartel mare Corona Spy, broke his maiden at Ajax Downs on June 10. He followed that with two second-place efforts including finishing second in the Bonus Challenge Futurity in her last start July 15.

Kwiecien and Pascoe's other qualifiers include 3rd fastest Code Name Valor, 6th fastest Stripper Dust and 8th fastest Teller Im High.

Trainer Erik Lehtinen saddled second fastest Shes Sizzling, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Sizzling Cartel, for himself and Joyce Lehtinen.

Making her first career start in her native province of Ontario, the bay filly entered today's trials off a troubled finish in the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity in Canterbury Park in July.

Under trainer Jason Pascoe, Shes Sizzling broke her maiden at Remington Park last May when she posted an impressive two-length win in a $19,100 2-year-old maidens' event. Bred from the Eyesa Special mare Shenandoah Special, Shes Sizzling has compiled a (5) 2-1-1 record and banked $23,011. The top four qualifiers came from the second trial.

Chicksdigmymoneybags broke his maiden in the first trial when he defeated Stripper Dust by a head to get the 5th fastest time of :20.290 seconds.

Owned-and-trained by Ruth Barbour, the Texas-bred son of multiple stakes sire Chicks Regard was ridden by jockey Regan Knowles. In his best effort from four previous starts at Ajax, the gray 2-year-old, out of the Brimmerton mare Aaneta, finished third. Casey Albert Lipp is the breeder.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Ajax Downs on Saturday, October 10th to vie for the winner's share of the $75,000-added purse.
