Estellina Is Stellar In Trials To PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—SEPTEMBER 16, 2018—Owned and bred by Hayden Brothers Ranch, Estelline ran flawlessly from post number eight to win the third of six trials to the Grade 2, $365,000 PCQHRA Breeders Futurity in the fastest qualifying time on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Saul Ramirez, Jr. for trainer Danny Montes, Estelline had a clear lead right from the start and never looked back on the way to a 1-¾ length win over John Deere California Juvenile Challenge runner-up Capitol Grille.

Estelline covered the distance in :17.556 while posting her second win in as many starts at Los Alamitos. The Carters Cartel filly out of the mare Lady Of Reason SA had previously broken her maiden here by ¾ lengths on August 25.

"I saw her in Kennewick and my horse faced her in the Pot O' Gold," Montes said. "She showed then that she's a nice filly with a lot of heart."

Three months later and Montes is training the Oregon-bred filly.

"Hector sent her to me on August 5," Montes said. "Hector is a good friend and we go back at least seven or eight years. We've been working together back and forth and he's been sending me his good horses. I've had some luck with horses from the Northwest and it looks like he's sent me another good one. (Estelline) only had four races under her belt in the Northwest before she came to California. We just had to maintain her conditioning and get her ready to race. She's been pretty good for us down here."

Estelline's dam is the Favorite Trick mare Lady of Reason SA, who was winless in four career starts. Lady Of Reason SA is a full sister of Good Reason SA, the winner of the 2009 Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and 2011 Champion of Champions.

The second trial was the most productive of the night with its top four finishers advancing to the futurity final. Reliance Ranches LLC's Conquering Marie won this fast heat by a neck in a time of :17.653.

The Coronado Cartel filly improved her record to three wins from five career starts. Martha Wells' Red Hawk Cartel, the winner of the California Breeders Freshman Stakes at 62-1 odds, ran second to Conquering Marie and finished with the third fastest heat.

Trial winners that will be back to compete in the final include Valentin Zamudio's Callender, Rosenthal Ranch's Jess Bein Me, and Jaime Gomez's Majestic Mr Perry.

A total of 49 juveniles competed in the six trials. For the complete list of PCQHRA Breeders' Futurity(G2) finalists, times, sires, dams, owners, breeders, trainers and jockeys CLICK HERE .
