San Lorenzo Corona Easy Winner in Mid-City Stakes

San Lorenzo Corona Easy Winner in Mid-City Stakes

NEW ORLEANS, LA—SEPTEMBER 8, 2018—San Lorenzo Corona, a brother to AQHA Racing Champion Open Me A Corona, cruised to his first career stakes win Saturday when he defeated Heza Louisiana Dash by 1-˝ lengths in the $40,000 Mid-City Stakes on closing day at Fair Grounds Race Course & Slots.

Ridden by jockey Eddie Sanchez, the gray colt raced over the classic 440 yard distance in :21.528 seconds, equaling a 102 speed index. It was the fourth win 11 starts for the 4-year-old and the $24,000 Mid-City winners' purse boosted his bankroll to just under $100,000.

Trainer Jose Louis Sanchez, III saddled the son of multiple stakes sire Coronas Leaving You for owner Rogelio Marquez, Jr.

Bred by Jim and Natalie Montgomery, from the Mr Eye Opener mare In The Open, San Lorenzo Corona entered the race off a second-placed effort in the Louisiana Classic Stakes (RG2) at Delta Downs last July.

Multiple graded winner Heza Louisiana Dash increased his earnings to over $518,000 after pocketing $8,000 for his second-place effort in the Mid-City Stakes. AQHA Racing Champion trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. conditions the 6-year-old Heza Fast Dash gelding for owner T M Ranch.

Jumonville Farms and Burnett Ranch bred the brown gelding from the Mr Jess Perry mare Eyejesslovelouisiana.

Another son of leading sire Heza Fast Dash, Heza Bell Perry, put in a mild rally late to finish half-a-length back in third-place, earning $4,400. Robert Meche trains the 7-year-old for owner Jose Rodriguez. Jockey Antonio Alberto rode the multiple graded winner out of the Toast To Dash mare De Bell Perry. He has won 12 races and earned $211,156.

Completing the field were Eye Am Sizzlin, Lightemupwithcharm, and Ldn Jessasaltydog.
