Timbersknightryder Impresses In Alberta-Bred Futurity Trials

ROCKEY VIEW, ALB—SEPTEMBER 3, 2018—Coming off a fourth-place effort in the Jerry Stojan Memorial Futurity in his last start, Timbersknightryder dominated the first of two trials to the Alberta-Bred Futurity Saturday, winning by 2-¼ lengths to establish the top qualifying mark.

The eight fastest qualifiers will return to Century Downs on Saturday, September 22nd to vie for the winners' share of a $58,299 purse going 350 yards.

Ridden by jockey Ramiro Castillo, Timbersknightryder broke alertly then drew away from the field, unasked late, to complete the course in :17.911 seconds, a 97 speed index over a "good" racing surface with a 12 mph tailwind.

It was the second win in three starts for the son of leading Canadian sire First Timber. Trainer James Doolin saddled the bay gelding for owner Tony Laczo. Isaak Fehr bred Timbersknightryder from the Hez Choice Property mare Sparkling Hy. He has earned $5,286.

Last Union defeated Goldin Warrior by a head in the second trial to post the second fastest time of :17.940 seconds, a 96 speed index. Trainer Tom Kenway saddled the Unification (TB) gelding to his second win in three starts for owner Pat Debona and Ken McFarlane.

Bred by McFarlane, from the Teller Cartel mare Teller Reba, Last Union broke his maiden at Grand Prairie in his last start, August 17. Martin Ortiz had the riding call.

Getting away slow, Goldin Warrior surged late to just miss the win but still hung on for the third fastest qualifying time of :17.976, a 95 speed index.

Still a maiden from four starts, trainer Laure Ferguson conditions the First Timber colt for owner/breeder Isaak Fehr. Ridden by J.B. Botello, the black 2-year-old is out of Madam Goldilocks by Corona Cartel.

Trainer Tom Kenway will also saddled 6th fastest qualifier Royale Special. Owner-breeder and trainer Wesley Oulton was the only other trainer with multiple qualifiers. He saddled 5th fastest O Kingsley and 9th fastest Sasses Quick Silver

First Timber was the only stallion with multiple qualifiers, siring half the field. He also sired O Kingsley who recorded the 5th fastest time and Sasses Quick Silver who qualified with the 9th fastest time.
