ROCK SPRINGS, WY—SEPTEMBER 2, 2018—In a closer finish than is usually witnessed in hook races, Holy Scat Batman edged out Zonic Zoom at the wire in the 770-yard $8,600 Green River Stakes (not black-type) at Sweetwater on Sunday afternoon.

Shaunda Larsen guided the 6-year-old home in 42.344 to earn a 73 speed index. The pair avoided trouble in the race and gained the lead as a result before dueling with the Zonic Zoom and Jose Guzman throughout much of the race.

Holy Scat Batman ($23.40) is owned and trained by David Greene and was bred in Wyoming by Tm Quarterhorses. Prior to Sunday’s win, the gelding had found no success in his three previous starts at 770 yards nor in his four starts in Rock Springs. However, he had recently placed second behind Zonic Zoom in a 660-yard race in Casper and most of his starts for the last two years have been slightly longer, at 870 yards.

Holy Scat Batman was bred for distance, the gelding is sired by a Thoroughbred, Holy Tara, who is a son of Holy Bull. He is out of the Form Ten Ninty mare A Form of Scat.

Zonic Zoom is trained by Steven Newman for owner Movin On. The 9-year-old gelding was bred in Oklahoma by George Temple, by Shazoom and out of the Vital Sign mare Miss Truckle Sign.

Zonic Zoom won at 660 wire to wire in his last start; though he had never attempted the unique 770-yard distance before, he was well-versed at 660 and 870 yard distances. In 44 career stats, the experienced gelding has won nine races and placed second 13 times, with lifetime earnings to date of over $50,000.

Eyes By Corona and Damon Leeds rounded out the trifecta for trainer Steven Newman and owner Movin On. Sunflower Supply Company bred the 5-year-old gelding in Missouri; he is sired by Fantastic Corona Jr and is out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Miss Racy Eyes.

It was the first start around the turn at any distance for Eyes By Corona, who has three career wins in 26 starts and has finished in the money in half of her lifetime efforts.

Completing the field were T Heart Tripwire, Wanna Be Fierce, Im Pink, Alma the Younger and Royalclassic Corona.
