Elenoor Turns Tables In Ontario Sires Stakes Derby Victory

AJAX, ONT—SEPTEMBER 2, 2018—Coming off a second-place effort in the August 12th trials, Elenoor powered away from the gate under jockey Cassandra Jeschke to defeat Chase This Yawl by 1-¼ lengths in the $51,760(US) Ontario Sires Stakes Derby Sunday afternoon at Ajax Downs. Fastest qualifier Smoakn Gun finished a neck back for third after a fractious start from the gate.

Bred, owned-and-trained by Scott Reid, Elenoor completed the 350 yards in :17.710 seconds, a 97-speed index with a 26 mph tailwind. It was the fourth win in eight career starts for the daughter of Mr Jess Tex and the winners' purse of $20,704(US) boosted her bankroll to $45,557.

Elenoor is out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Squincheyes. Last year she was finalist in the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity.

Runner-up Chase This Yawl, a son of Mr Jess Tex, races for owners DK Training Centre and Richard Wincikaby. Brian Bell had the riding call for the trainer Don Reid. Bred by Wincikaby, from Ms Mollie Malone by The Down Side, Chase This Yawl picked up $10,352 for the effort.

Fastest qualifier Smoakn Gun was fractious in the gate under jockey Cory Spataro then bumped at the start. Greg Watson trains the Ontario homebred for owner/breeder Stephanie Keeble. Out of the Jesse James Jr mare Jamies Gotta Gun. He earned $5,176(US).

Junoimzoomin, Zoomin Special, Firing Red Jess, Hellfires Mistress, Hanover Hill Sugar, Chilleh Pepper and Too Much White completed the field.
