Cartels Star Daddy Takes First Moonflash,, Jest Famous Wins Cesar Gomez Memorial

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—SEPTEMBER 1, 2018—Cartels Star Daddy, a $7,500 claim back in March, won that race and has yet to be defeated with an easy win in the $25,000 First Moonflash for older New Mexico-breds on Saturday at Ruidoso Downs.

Jest Famous then took the $20,000 Cesar Gomez Memorial, for two-year-olds, in the following race.

First Moonflash Stakes

The Martin Orona-owned and -trained Cartels Star Daddy grabbed control of the 350-yard First M-oonflash Stakes< by the halfway point and won by one-and-one-half lengths over You And Eye. Eyesawagon finished third, one-half length behind You And Eye.

Cartels Star Daddy, the 11-10 favorite, raced the 350 yards in a sharp :17.365 with Raul Herrera aboard.

The four-year-old Cartels Star Daddy raced to his fourth consecutive victory in the First Moonflash.

After taking that $7,500 claiming race, the son of Big Daddy Cartel won a $26,000 allowance race at SunRay Park and then came to Ruidoso Downs to win the $50,000 Zia Handicap over a premier field of older New Mexico-breds.

Sergio Castro’s You And Eye was claimed out of a third-place run in his previous start for $10,000. The three-year-old Chicks Regard gelding is now trained by Cynthia Gonzalez and Tanner Thedford was up.

Third-place finisher Eysawagon, owned by Manuel Villagran and Juan Corral, was second in a state-bred conditioned allowance race on June 29. The Gonamakeyoureyesblue daughter is trained by Jaime Aldavaz and ridden by Fredrico Martinez.

Cesar Gomez Memorial Allownace

Jest Famous, the 3/5 favorite, had to work to get his win in the Cesar Gomez over a game J Gatsby. Both horses are trained by Blane Wood.

MRB Racing, LLC’s Jest Famous, with Ricky Ramirez aboard, won by a head with a :17.527 time for the 350 yards.

Bobby Simmons and Mark McCloy’s J Gatsby finished three quarters of a length in front of Too Fat Ranch’s U Got The Look.

Jest Famous, a $200,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling purchase, finished third in the Grade 1, $1,000,000 Ruidoso Futurity and then was third in his All American Futurity trial. He won his maiden at first asking in his Ruidoso Futurity trial.

A gelding by Mr Jess Perry, Jest Famous has the same cross that produced champion and leading sire One Famous Eagle, who is by Mr Jess Perry and out of One Famous Lady. Jest Famous is out of a daughter of One Famous Lady.
