Lil Kool Wagon Dominates Iowa Stallion Futurity and Derby Trials

Lil Kool Wagon Dominates Iowa Stallion Futurity and Derby Trials

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 19, 2018—Lil Kool Wagon, a multiple stakes siring son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon dominated four trial races on Sunday at Prairie Meadows.

The young stallion's offspring won both trials for the $83,715 Iowa Stallion Futurity as well as both trials contested for the $65,624 Iowa Stallion Derby.

Iowa Stallion Futurity Trials

Lil Quick Wagon defeated Lil Iza Baby by a head in the second of two trials for the Iowa Stallion Futurity to get the fastest qualifying time of :17.983 seconds.

The son of Lil Kool Wagon rallied under jockey Jorge Torres to pick up his second win in as many starts this season. Trainer Stacy Charette-Hill conditions the 2-year-old gelding for owners Michael Pohl and Bob Urich. Urich bred Lil Quick Wagon in Iowa from the Special Legend mare Ru Special.

Runner-up Lil Iza Baby, a filly by Lil Kool Wagon from the Special Legend mare Iza Cruisin, held on for the second fastest time of :17.999 seconds.

Owned-and-bred by Bob Urich, trainer Alex Wessels saddled the bay filly to her first career start in Sunday's trials.

In the opening trial, Brins Koollilokey was moved from second to first after Lil Upity was disqualified for interference and placed fourth.

Trainer Wayne Garner saddled the Lil Kool Wagon gelding to the third fastest time of :18.265 seconds. Brins Koollilokey is an Iowa homebred from the Okey Dokey Dale mare Okey Runway, for owners-breeders Harold and Brina Thomas. Cody Smith was riding.

Lil Kool Wagon sired four of the 10 qualifiers. Other stallions with multiple qualifiers were Sweet First Down who also got four into the September 2nd final.

Rakin In Jo rolled to an impressive 3-˝ length win in the first of two trials for the Iowa Stallion Derby Sunday afternoon. Under jockey Cody Smith, the Lil Kool Wagon filly completed the 400 yards in :19.883 seconds, a 90 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind, to post the top qualifying mark.

Winner of last year's Iowa Stallion Futurity, the lightly raced filly picked up her second career win in five starts for owner/breeder and trainer Wayne Garner. Out of the Special Leader mare Chargin To The Lead, Rakin In Jo has earned nearly $50,000.

Lil Black Wagon was a three-quarter-length winner in the second trial, under jockey Jorge Torres, to get the second fastest time of :20.216 seconds.

Stacy Charette-Hill trains the winner of last year's Jim Bader Futurity for owners Michael Pohl and Bob Urich. Urich bred the gelding in Iowa from the aforementioned Special Legend mare Ru Special.

Lil Black Wagon has compiled a (6) 4-0-0 record and earned $101,362.

Lil Kool Wagon also sired 5th fastest qualifier Boogie Wagon and 6th fastest qualifier Bm Lil Kool Cash.

Sweet First Down got three qualifiers and Talkalota Bull sired two finalists.
