Bonita de Capi Breaks Maiden, Sets Top Time For G.C.F.A. July Firecracker Futurity

FREDERICKSBURG, TX—JULY 8, 2018—Coming off a sixth-place troubled effort in a $15,000 claiming race at Remington Park May 24, Bonita de Capi broke her maiden on Sunday when she defeated Dashingtobfamous by a neck to post the top qualifying time for the $84,250 G.C.F.A. July Firecracker Futurity at the Gillespie County Fairground.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from the six trials races conducted today, will return to the South Texas racetrack on Saturday, July 21st to vie for the winner's purse worth $29,487.

Bonita de Capi drifted in under jockey Luis Vivanco, but still covered the 350 yards in a quick :17.600 clocking, a 101 speed index into a 8 mph crosswind, to get the top qualifying mark. The Oklahoma-bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Capo de Capi has a (4) 1-1-0 record and has earned $5,840.

Trainer Adrian Huitron saddled Bonita de Cap for owner Jose Gallegos. Hector Garcia bred the brown filly from the Dashin Chico mare Dashin Bonita.

The aforementioned Dashingtobfamous broke sharp under jockey Rene Guevara, Jr. to finish with the second fastest time of :17.659 seconds, a 98 speed index. Rene Gevara conditions the Bodacious Dash colt, from the One Famous Eagle mare One Famous Totty B, for owners Armando Rodriguez, Jr. and Lisabet Rodriguez. Bred in Texas by Severo Jesus Carrasco, Dashingtobfamous was making his career debut.

Cadillac Cash, under jockey Eddie Sanchez, posted a three-quarter length win in the second trial to get the third fastest time of :17.747, a 96 speed index into a 7 mph crosswind. The son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty bounced off a ninth place effort in the Firecracker trials at Delta on June 9. Prior to that he was third in the Grade 2 $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity and banked over $51,000.

Trainer Elpidio Luna, Jr. conditions the Texas-bred colt from the Tres Seis mare Evans Express for owner Rolando Morales. Jack and Mary Evans, Jr. is the breeder.
