Deala Quick Game Catches Elusive First Stakes Win in Live Oak Handicap

SAN ANTONIO, TX—JULY 7, 2018—After six previous stakes appearances, Deala Quick Game finally captured his first stakes victory in the $15,000 Live Oak Handicap at Retama Park on Saturday night.

Deala Quick Game ($14.20) upset post-time favorite Rc Me Leaving You by a neck in the 350-yard race. The winner earned a 104 speed index with aa final time of 17.532.

Deala Quick Game is a 4-year-old son of Dealagame, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Quickid Perry. He is owned and bred by Pete Scarmardo and trained by Leon Bard; Jose Martinez had the call for Saturday’s race.

The Texas-bred gelding is now five for 19 lifetime with $43,241 in career earnings. His 19 starts include seven trials and seven stakes, one of which was the $119,822 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity (G3), also at Retama.

Heavily favored Rc Me Leaving You finished in second place with jockey Noe Villatoro for owners Bennie and Terri Jeter. The Jimmy Padgett trainee boasts an impressive career history of 16 stakes starts, half of which were graded, and four stakes wins. His most recent stakes win was the $25,000 B F Phillips Jr Handicap (RG3) at Lone Star last year.

Rc Me Leaving You was bred in Texas by R C Running Horses, by Coronas Leaving You and out of the Streakin Six mare Sixy Bottom. The accomplished 6-year-old has earned $208,098.

A half-length behind the top two finishers was Tellereyemattthebar and jockey Francisco Mendez. Trained by Gilbert Aguiree, III, Tellereyematthebar is a 5-year-old gelded son of Teller Cartel.

Tellereyematthebar was bred in Texas by his owners, James Hrabovsky & Leann Nalls, out of Eye Shine Special, by First to Shine. He is the winner of the 2016 $235,600 Dash for Cash Derby (G3) and has made appearances in many other stakes.

Completing the field were Glimpse of Fire, Desdemona Rambler and Kraken Black. Kraken Black originally finished fourth but was disqualified and placed last.
