Really Special Breaks Maiden in North Dakota Grass Roots Futurity Win

BELCOURT, ND—JUNE 30, 2018—Francisco Estrada swept the two Quarter Horse stakes at Chippewa on Saturday, first winning on Ramblin On in Style in the AQHA Bonus Challenge (see related story) and then bringing home 8-1 shot Really Special to a maiden-breaking win in the $8,200 North Dakota Grass Roots Futurity (not black-type).

Really Special ($19.20) finished second in her trial as the fifth fastest qualifier from trials held on June 16. The 2-year-old North Dakota-bred filly is owned and trained by Amanda Haar.

The winning duo edged out Sucha Easy Memory and Evan Herman by a nose in the 300-yard final. However, the those two cleared the third-place finisher, Corona Company, and the rest of the field, by nearly three lengths.

Really Special was bred by Diane Carpentier, by Mr Special Colors and out of Sheza A Natural, by Windwalker Alive.

Sucha Easy Memory debuted in her trial and won as the fourth fastest qualifier, defeating Really Special by three-quarters of a length. The 2-year-old gelding is owned and trained by Robert Herman.

Sucha Easy Memory was bred in North Dakota by John Bubel, by Such Easy Cash and out of the Going Memories mare Memories Jet.

The two frontrunners put daylight between them and the rest of the field, and it was Duane Salvino and Corona Company who emerged from the pack for third place. Trained by Cole Wilson and owned by Darrel Smith, Corona Company was the second fastest qualifier, beaten by two lengths in his trial by the fastest qualifier, Andres Okey Dokey.

Corona Company was bred by Smith in North Dakota, by Corona Up and out of the Free Company mare The Girl Got Company.

The AQHA Chippewa Downs Bonus Challenge Stakes was hand-timed; no times have been made available.

Completing the field were Andres Okey Dokey, Perrys Easy Cash, Royal Bar Memories and Sunday Corona. Sucha Tempered Reb was scratched.
