Bay Max Sets Top Mark In Wyoming Downs 89 & Under Trials on Saturday

EVANSTON, WY—JUNE 29, 2018—Multiple stakes winner Bay Max set the fastest qualifying time for the 89 & Under Allowance Saturday afternoon at Wyoming Downs. The 3-year-old defeated Favorite Wonder by a nose to get the top mark of :19.626 seconds, a 101 speed index into a 5 mph crosswind.

The 10 fastest qualifiers, from two trial contested on today's opening card at Wyoming Downs, will return on Saturday, July 14th to vie for the winners' share of a $6,000 race going 400 yards.

Under jockey Jesus Virgen, Bay Max used a late surge to get his fifth career win from nine starts. Trainer Ryan Christensen conditions the son of Dashair for owner/breeder Casey Woolstenhulme. The 3-year-old won the Utah Bred Futurity, Hawthorne -IdaBet.com Futurity-Div. 1 last season and was second in the Dixie Downs Derby earlier this year. From the Thoroughbred mare Weekend Traffic by of Olympio, Bay Max has earned $35,698.

Caught at the wire, under jockey Cordarelton Benn, Favorite Wonder settled for the second fastest time of :19.637 seconds, also a 101 speed index. The homebred son of multiple stakes sire Favorite Cartel races for owner/breeder Gary Carmichael. Third in the Laurel Brown Speed Index 89 & Under allowance in his last start, Favorite Wonder is out of the Heza Fast Man mare Gone Not Forgotten.

Royally bred One Dashin Chamisa V was a three-quarter length winner in the opening trail to record the third fastest qualifying time of :19.843 seconds, a 94 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind. Jockey Oscar Cervantes rode the One Dashing Eagle filly out of multiple graded stakes winner Sixy Chamisa by Sixes Royal.

Trainer Aron Saenz conditions the Oklahoma-bred filly for owner Aron Saenz. This was the first win seven career starts for the Valeriano Racing Stables LLC-bred filly.
