Ridden by jockey Alfredo Triana, Jr., Shine Your Wagon finished best from the outside post to set the top qualifying mark of :18.061 seconds, into a 12 mph headwind.

The bay gelding, owned by Margarito Montalvo, was the first of three derby qualifiers saddled by trainer Hipolito Michel-Valverde. Bill and Marsha Drake bred Shine Your Wagon from the First To Shine mare Shine N Shake.

Michel-Valverde's other qualifiers were 3rd fastest Coronas Top Treasure, a Coronas Prospect gelding who finished second in the closing trial, ¾'s off second fastest qualifier Indomable Cartel, and 7th fastest Dg Secret Pass, a No Secrets Here gelding making only his second career start.

Also ridden by Alfredo Triana, Jr., the aforementioned Indomable Cartel clocked :18.072 seconds into a 15 mph headwind to get the second fastest time after winning the second trial.

Trainer Luz Chavira conditions last year's Cherry Creek Futurity winner for owner Mariano Cornejo. A winner of 3 races from 12 starts, Indomable Cartel was also third in the Arapahoe Park Futurity and Dash For Cash Juvenile last season. He has earned $51,737.

Francisco Cornejo bred Indomable Cartel from the Wave Carver mare Tahiti Wave.
