Political Attraction Posts Top Time In Final Remington Park Derby Trail

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—APRIL 8, 2018—Political Attraction won the sixth and final trial on Sunday to qualify for the $347,400 Remington Park Derby, posting the fastest 400-yard time in the process.

Political Attraction crossed the finish in :19.714 over a fast track and will lead a field of 10 to the Remington Park Derby on Saturday, April 21. The race, for eligible Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds, is part of the Remington Park Futurity program.

Owned by the partnership of Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and Kathy Robinson of Claremore, Okla. and trained by Amanda Tongay, Political Attraction was ridden by James Flores.

The 3-year-old gelding won his first start of 2018 and extended his winning streak to five races in a row, dating back to July 2017 when he won his trial for the Speedhorse Futurity at Fair Meadows in Tulsa. Political Attraction then won the Speedhorse Futurity before going on to win a trial and then the Black Gold 350-Futurity at Will Rogers Downs in Claremore.

A son of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Separatist mare Gunsight Peak, Political Attraction was bred in Oklahoma by Ron Lyles.

Express Train No 9, a daughter of multiple stakes sire Freighttrain B, won the 5th trial by three/quarters to get the second fastest time of :19.823 seconds.

Trainer Pedro Martinez conditions the multiple stakes qualifier for owner Jessica Perez. Cody Smith had the riding assignment. Kenneth Norman bred Express Train No 9 from the Whirling Fastball mare Wildfire Express Two. Last season she was a finalist in the Speedhorse Futurity(G3) and the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Futurity(RG3). She has earned $56,637.

Apollitical Jess was the only sire with multiple qualifiers getting four of the 10 finalists.

The 2018 Remington Park American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa Season will continue Thursday thru Sunday, April 12-15. The first race nightly is at 6pm, except Sunday afternoon, when racing begins at 1:30pm. All times are Central.
