PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 8, 2018—With a time of :15.705, Jess Pure Class was the fastest qualifier from three trials at Turf Paradise for the 300-yard $30,000-added Desert Classic Futurity.

Jess Pure Class, with Kevin Carbajal up, made his racing debut in Sunday’s trials and defeated second place finisher Sassy Krystal by a neck. The winning duo earned an 89 speed index.

Jess Pure Class is owned and trained by Guillermo Morales. The 2-year-old gelded son of Jesse James Jr was bred in New Mexico by MJ Farms, out of the Chicks Beduino mare A Chick of Class.

The second fastest qualifier for the 2018 running of the Desert Classic Futurity won the second trial of the day. Shez Ifs and jockey Rodolfo Arvizu covered the trial distance in :15.734, defeating the field by nearly a length and earning a speed index of 88.

Shez Ifs is trained by Benito Guillen Vega for owner Luis M. Robles. James Markum bred the Valiant Hero filly in New Mexico. Shez Ifs is out of the Dashin Bye mare Mon Ti Rose, a multiple graded stakes winner in Louisiana.

Sassy Krystal led the first trial until she was caught at the wire by Jess Pure Class, but her time of 15.744 placed her third on the list of qualifiers for the final at the end of the month.

Sassy Krystal is an Oklahoma-bred filly by Heza Fast Dash, bred by Bollenbach Farms. She is out of the Corona Cartel mare Sassy Corona, also bred by Bollenbach Farms. Sassy Corona was a multiple Grade 1 stakes qualifier and a Grade 3 winner at Los Alamitos in 2006.

Ricardo Ramirez owns and trains Sassy Krystal; Joseph Belloc, Jr had the riding call for the trial.

The $30,000 added Desert Classic Futurity final will be held Sunday, April 29.
