Fastest Qualifier Unregulated Cash Victorious in AQRA President’s Open Spring Derby

PHOENIX, AZ—APRIL 7, 2018—Fastest qualifier Unregulated Cash returned as a clear winner in the final for the $37,050 AQRA President’s Open Spring Derby at Turf Paradise in the feature Quarter Horse race on Saturday’s card.

Unregulated Cash ($4.60) and Martin Osuna covered the 350-yard distance in 17.913 and earned an 89 speed index. The winning pair was the post-time favorite in the field of ten and finished a half-length ahead of second-place finisher Famous Joker.

Jose Botello owns and trains the son of Favorite Cartel. The 3-year-old gelding was bred in Oklahoma by Vince Genco and Paul Jones, out of the Check Him Out mare Checkcashingability.

Unregulated Cash debuted at Ruidoso last summer before breaking his maiden at Los Alamitos. This was not only his first stakes win, but the first stakes appearance of his career to date.

Second place finisher Famous Joker was the fourth fastest qualifier from trials held on March 24. Joseph Belloc, Jr, returned to ride the One Famous Eagle gelding for trainer Ricardo Ramirez and owner Yuriana Ramirez.

Famous Joker is out of the graded stakes winning mare Ms Pilot Point, by Splash Bac, and was bred in Louisiana by Grant Farms LLC.

In 2017, Famous Joker placed second in the Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge and later competed in the Rainbow Juvenile Stakes at Ruidoso Downs.

Rose Dynasty and Jesus Osuna led briefly but were passed late to finish a neck behind Famous Joker. Her derby trial was her first appearance at Turf Paradise following several starts at Rillito in Tucson this spring and a 2017 campaign at Los Alamitos.

The black FDD Dynasty filly was bred in Montana by Hooves & Stalls, out of First Faded Rose, by Shazoom. She is owned by Sonia and Alvaro Monteverde; Alvaro Monteverde also trains.

Jazzy Icon, Favorite Hot Cartel, Cowgirl N Up, Cd Mighty Handsome, Feature Money, Nicos Favoritecartel and Redd Shirt completed the field.
