LOS ALAMITOS, CA—APRIL 6, 2018—Jaime Gomez had 16 juveniles post works on Thursday afternoon and the trainer had glowing reviews for several of his young runners.

The fastest of all on Thursday was the Foose colt Ali Babe Foose, whose dam is the outstanding Babe On The Fly. That makes Ali Babe Foose a full brother to Grade 1 winner Rock You and Grade 1 stakes placed runner Glock. Racing for Reliance Ranches, Rock You won the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby in 2014 and Grade 1 All American Gold Cup in 2015. Paul Blanchard’s Glock ran second in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby and second in the First Down Dash Derby in 2015.

“Ali Babe Foose is one that I really like,” Gomez said. “He also has a wonderful demeanor. He’s very calm, smart, and fast.”

Cesar Dabdoub purchased Ali Babe Foose for $53,000 at the Ruidoso Yearling Sale last year. Ali Babe Foose was originally named Karl Strauss before Dabdoub bought him at the sale.

Going back to Babe On The Fly, the broodmare is truly a tremendous producer. In addition to Rock You and Glock, she’s also the dam of the Favorite Cartel mare Little Talks, winner of the 2016 Grade 1 Golden State Million Futurity and 2017 Grade 3 PCQHRA Breeders Derby. She’s also the mother of multiple stakes winner Fly Thru The Fire and stakes winner Carne Vino and several other talented runners.

Gomez is also excited about the young prospect Flores First Perry, a colt by First Down Dash and out of Dashing Jessee, who was purchased for $30,000 Los Alamitos Equine Sale last year. Flores First Perry is from the family of the Casady Casanova mare Elite Empress, who produced 1996 AQHA co-champion 2-year-old filly Speedy Empress.

Other notable runners from the Gomez stable included Dexxter, a gelding bred in Utah and sired by Corona Cartel. His dam is Tres Of Linda, the winner of the Grade 2 Charger Bar Handicap in 2013 plus two other stakes wins here.

“I’m pretty excited about Dexxter as well,” Gomez said. “He worked :12.5 and finished just behind Ali Babe Foose in their drill.”

Tough Enough Jess also went :12.5 when working next to Flores First Perry on Thursday.

“He’s quick out of the gate,” Gomez said of Tough Enough Jess. “But he’s a ridgling and that affects him as he runs down the track. We are planning to geld him this week.”

Dutch Masters III’s Lead By Fire, a colt by Walk Thru Fire, is one of three juveniles out of the dam Uncommonly Special that recorded a work on Thursday morning. Lead By Fire worked in :12.60, the fastest clocking from among the three siblings. Uncommonly Special earned $122,756 in her racing career while winning the Grade 3 Texas Distaff Challenge and Iowa Double Gold Futurity. She’s the dam of Golden State Million Futurity finalist LA Fire.

“I have several very nice runners,” Gomez said. “I only have three that I’ll run in the Kindergarten Futurity trials, but one of those is a half-sister to (champion) J Fire Up.”

Gomez added that the Nicasio brothers, Eduardo and Jose, worked all of his 2-year-old on Thursday morning. They’ll likely be aboard many of the young runners in Gomez’s barn to start the futurity season.
