TQHA Sale Graduate Sets Fastest Time in Training Races at Retama Park - Corrected

SELMA, TX-FEBRUARY 16, 2018--Baller, a $13,000 TQHA Sale graduate, posted the fastest time from 59 two-year-olds participating in 11 250 yards schooling races this afternoon (Friday) at Retama Park.

Jockey Francisco Calderon rode the son of multiple stakes sire Jess Zoomin to the top time of :13.48 seconds. Miguel Angel Medina conditions the $13,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate for the partnership of Paul Lazolla and Catarino Terrazas.

Bred in Texas by Ted Abrams, Baller is out of the stakes winning Panther Mountain mare Panther Speed. The second dam is the stakes winner and multiple stakes producing Corona Cartel mare Shaded In Speed. This is the immediate family of stakes-placed and G1 finalist JZ Fast Boy who is also by Jess Zoomin.

Claudia Miranda was the only owner with two winners on today's training card. Trainer Daniel Luna saddled Rock Winners Jese to the victory in the 8th trial to tie for the second fastest time of :13.57 seconds. Trainer Juan Saucedo saddled Miranda's Racytrain B to victory in the Race 11.

Trainers Josue Ponce, Daniel Luna and Saul Ramirez, Jr. saddled two winners each.

Ponce had $51,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling graduate Slyny Schott in Race 6 and Mystical Desire in Race 4. Luna saddled Rock Winners Jese in race 8 and Waving Cartel Race 5. Ramirez winners included Jes Kas in Race 7 and Texas Bully in Race 13.

Jockeys Victor Urieta, Jr., Pedro Espinosa, Eddie Sanchez and Eliazar Vera rode two winners apiece.

Additional sires with winners were Bodacious Dash, Desirio, Dominyun, Freighttrain B, Heza Fast Dash, Ivory James, Rock Solid Jess, SS Samson, Stoli and The Louisiana Cartel.

More 2-year-old training race days are scheduled at Retama Park for Friday, March 2; and Friday, March 16. According to track officials, additional dates will be added if necessary.

Training race overnights are available at 11 a.m. on training race days.

Horses stabled on the grounds are required to pay a $45 fee and ship ins pay $60. A copy of the front and back of the horses' registration certificate must be on file in the racing office to enter and for paddock identification. All fees are required prior to running.

Ship ins are required to have an original 30-day health certificate with verification of Flu/Rhino vaccination for EHV1 within the past six months. All Quarter Horses, Paints and Arabians shipping in must have a current negative coggins and piroplasmosis test.
