Texas Tornadoe Scores Back-to-Back Futurity Wins With AQRA Southwest Futurity

PHOENIX, AZ—DECEMBER 30, 2017—Coming off a troubled second-place effort in the December 10th trials, Texas Tornadoe rolled to a dominating 1-¼ length victory in the $28,025 AQRA Southwest Futurity, the final 2-year-old stakes of the season, Saturday afternoon at Turf Paradise racetrack.

Ridden by jockey Andres Osuna, the daughter of 2017 top-nine second-crop sire Texas Icon, completed the 350 yards in :17.783 seconds, a 93-speed index into an 11-mph headwind.

Trainer Raul Valenzuela saddled the brown filly to her fourth career win this season for owner Angel Valenzuela. After going winless in her first three starts, Texas Tornadoe was claimed for a $6,250-tag in July at Los Alamitos Race Course.

Since then the filly has won four of five starts and two futurities. After breaking her maiden for a $12,500-tag at Los Alamitos in August she returned to Arizona to win the AQRA Turf Paradise Futurity on October 29th.

Bred by Ralph and Carolyn Fales, from the Thoroughbred mare Its A Dry Heat by Dixelandband, Texas Tornadoe has compiled a (9) 4-3-1 record and today's $14,012 winners' purse nearly doubled her bankroll to $36,799.

Ridden by jockey Jesus Osuna, Brooksmidnighteagle finished a neck in front of stablemate Running Your Wagon for second. Trainer Tyler Gibbs saddled the One Dashing Eagle filly for owner/breeder Chad Richard. The Utah homebred, from the Brookstone Bay mare Brooks Midnight, earned $5,605 for the effort.

Also owned-and-bred by Richard, fastest qualifier Running Your Wagon was in tight at the start and bumped before finishing third. Jockey Mark Jasso had the riding assignment for trainer Tyler Gibbs. The Pyc Paint Your Wagon colt finished second in the Western States Breeders' Futurity at Sweetwater Downs in September.

He is out of Grade 1 All American Futurity winner Runnning Brook Gal by Brookstone Bay. The $2,802 third-place payday boosted Running Your Wagon's earnings to $29,302.

Jazzy Icon, My Pistolita, Corrupt, Pirteville Cartel, Come N Catch Me and Marshall Valentine. Tanyah Tucker was scratched.
