Apollitical Boogie Sets Top Mark in Turf Paradise Open QH Derby Trials

PHOENIX, AZ—NOVEMBER 26, 2017—Under jockey Emilio Tapia, Apollitical Boogie outlasted Mr Dynasty by a nose in the second trial Sunday to post the top qualifying time for the Turf Paradise Open Quarter Horse Derby at Turf Paradise.

Racing for owner/breeder Amado De La Riva, Apollitical Boogie completed the 400 yards in :19.666 seconds, a 99-speed index into an 8-mph headwind, to set the top qualifying mark from three trial races contested.

Trainer Eloy Mendoza saddled the stakes winning son of leading sire Apollitical Jess from the Late To Bed mare Shakin Ana Dashin. Bred in Arizona, Apollitical Boogie has compiled a (13) 5-3-1 record and banked $46,707.

He won the Turf Paradise Juvenile Challenge as a 2-year-old and was second in the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) at Los Alamitos. This season he finished third in the AQRA President's Open Spring Derby was second in the Sonoita Ranchers Bonus Challenge Handicap and Wayne Brasher Legacy Stakes.

Mr Dynasty, a son of champion sire FDD Dynasty, finished second in that trial with a :19.668 clocking, also a 99-speed index, to get the second fastest time of the day.

Trainer John Allred trains the sorrel gelding for himself and Mary Allred. The couple bred the 3-year-old in Arizona from the Feature Mr Jess mare Jess Joyner. A winner of two of seven career starts he has earned $10,837.

The royally bred Fitz won the final trial by an impressive 2-¾ lengths to post the third fastest time of :19.724 seconds, a 98-speed index.

Ridden by jockey Joseph Belloc, Jr., the gelding had a slight bobble at the start but recovered nicely for his second consecutive win at Turf Paradise after campaigning over the summer at Ruidoso Downs. Trainer Rigoberto Guillen conditions the son of Mr Jess Perry for owner Yuriana Ramirez.

Double Bar S Ranch LLC bred Fitz in California from the First Down Dash mare Dividends Declared. He was second in the AQRA President's Open Spring Derby in April.
