Perrys Gettin Down Gets Up To Win Portland Meadows Fall Derby

PORTLAND, OR—NOVEMBER 20, 2017—Perrys Gettin Down got up in the final jump to defeat L Bar D Bonnie Lee by a nose in the $19,150 Portland Meadows Fall Derby on Monday. Multiple stakes winner Henry Craig drifted under jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa, to finish a neck back in the blanket finish for third.

Trainer Hector Magallanes saddled the trifecta.

Ridden by jockey Armando Cervantes, Perrys Gettin Down rolled over the sloppy rainy track in :19.982 seconds, a 101-speed index for the 400 yards.

It was the first career stakes win for the son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry, who has now made it 2-for-2 at Portland Meadows. The $7,660 winners' purse boosted his career mark to $26,639.

Magallanes saddled the bay gelding for owners Adrian Gonzalez and Atilano Gonzalez. Bred in California by Vessels Stallion Farm LLC and Gianni Samaja, Perrys Gettin Down is out of the First Down Dash mare First Down Toll.

At 13-1, L Bar D Bonnie Lee dug in under jockey Jose Figueroa but was denied by her stablemate in the final jump to pick up $3,256 for owner Herman Torres. Also trained by Magallanes, the daughter of Giorgino races for owner Hernan Torres. Darrel and Lisa Sanders bred the bay filly in Oregon.

Jockey Eduardo Gutierrez-Sosa had the riding call aboard multiple stakes winner Henry Craig for owner/breeder Cedar Creek Tree Farm Ranch and Racing. Winner of last season's Wild West Futurity at Los Alamitos Race Course, the son of One Sweet Jess gave Magallanes the Derby trifecta.

The earner of nearly $60,000 went off as the pastime favorite. He is out of the multiple stakes producing Corona Cartel mare Copa Show Girl.

Cm Partners In Crime, Win Surfer, L Bar D Genuine Red, The Cartel Hawk, Ez Frosty Man and Absolutely Kool completed the field.
